Howdy gents, Romans and Dudes This Friday I'm going to look at a 74 'Duluxe?' 2 dr w/ a 250, 'half' vinyl top. The person selling the car said its a copper 'like finish' and tan interior w/ buckets and shift on the tree....does this sound 'STOCK' so far to you? It's said to be very straight, great 'dry' interior etc etc....yeah..I have heard that song and dance before The good news is that its driving and he's only asking 600.00 for it....and that would be the lowest cost car I have ever purchased. I have looked online for info on 'duluxe' mav's with no luck. What do you think and what should I be looking for? Thanks guys!
there were mavericks and comets with the special LDO "luxery decor option" usually it involved side trim on the outside, fake wood grain on the door panels, wide bucket seats. just make sure to check all the common laces for rot. mower doors, bottom of the front fenders, bottom of the rear 1/4 panels, floor boards, front of the hood, and a very common yet serious rust issuse is inside of the cowl vent(between the windshield and hood). it'll rust out in there and when it rains water will leak onto your floors inside the car, soak the carpet and rot the floors. pour some wather down in there, youll see it. another thing to watch out for with the vinal roof is if it has trapped water and rotted out the area directly above the windshield, also very serious. the most accepted way to treat this is transplanting a donar roof. for $600 i really wouldnt go into it expecting alot. if you can reliably drive it around and get it tagged youve probably found a deal. good luck
hi, the cowls are one place to look and if they ...salt or chem... the roads you will want to look at the ...frame rails (behind the rear bumper) and torq. boxes (frame behind the front wheels). get us some pics. it might be a good parts car for that price ...Frank...:Handshake
Thanks guys This would not be the first 'diamond in the rough' find that I have come across. In the Seattle area its a strange place to 'car shop'....the cost of living is high here but so are the wages....so some folks see a car like this and sale it for chump change...while others can easily over charge for a pile of doo doo. The guy has pics to send me..I should have them by lunch time today...but we all know that pics don't say crap when your talking about cars but at least its close...I hate driving for an hour only to be disapointed He bought the car for his son and it was to be a 'team' effort project...they had a 289 sitting aside with a C4 tranny, and other parts for a conversion....but his son lost interest and the dad has a 70 cuda that takes up his weekend hours. ( NICE! )...oh yeah...it comes with a new in the box one brl carb! He said its been covered with a tarp and the the seats and carpet have been in the garage to keep them fresh....I will do the water leak test and look for the rust build up along the vinyl seem trim areas. I'm also looking at a 72 Mustang this Sat for 2,500.00 "Who knows Highlander...Who knows?"
