I found a 1976 maverick with a 302 in it. It has a 3-speed trany with colum shift. My question is will that bellhousing bolt onto the top-loader I bought. that car has everything I need to convert my car over right? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks John
John, I have an early toploader and had to drill and tap the bellhousing to mate to it, I think the bolt pattern on the newer ones is the same as the one in the 76, but I am not positive on that. I also had to bore the large hole in the bellhousing a bit bigger as well. While the 76 does have nearly everything you will need, cept a shifter of course, you might run into some fabrication with the clutch z-bar to fit your car. All in all this is a good swap to do and I am going on memory of 28 years on this stuff. Dan
Everything should fit OK. Dan is correct in that there are 2 different size collars on the front of the transmission. Just get the collar off the 3 speed when you get everything else. It should bolt right on to your toploader if you need it.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Iguess I'll buy the car and strip it down. its a 4-door.Man I love this site, I wish I got this computer long time ago.:bananaman
4-speed stuff Hey guys, I went to put my eyeballs on the car today. Its not what the lady said it was on the phone. It's not a 302, its a 6cyl. It's not on the colum it's factory 3-speed on the floor. She was right about the buckets(mint). I'm going to get it for the steering colum, rubber boot on floor, and the peddels. How much is a set of 1976 Maverick bucket seats worth? not high backs-blue in color?
Since they are 4-door buckets....they will only work in a four door. I am sure somebody will want them though.
