If he actually checked the sender, then he drained the tank and removed it. I don't know how he could check the sender without doing that. I just don't want you to end up going around in circles over something simple - like a sender. :(

Hey, Randy--I was just noticing all the cars that you have. All you are missing is a 75! Man! That's a LOT of cars!

To check the gauge and assorted wiring going up to it, do like Craig says. If you look under the left side rear of your car at the gas tank, you will see where the fuel line goes into the gas tank. You will also see a wire with a plug on the end of it. Pull that loose, and use a paper clip or another piece of wire or something to short the two terminals together (this is all very low voltage, so no worry of getting shocked or anything). Turn the key to the ON position. The fuel gauge should sweep all the way to full.

If it goes to full, it's the sending unit causing the problem. If not, you will need to pull the cluster out of the dash. The way to test the fuel gauge itself is to take a 9 volt battery and connect it between the two terminals on the back side of the gauge (there will be nuts on these terminals also). If the gauge starts sweeping to full, you know it's good, disconnect the battery immediately. Do not let it go all the way to full and just hold it there with the battery connected, as you may damage the gauge. I guess I'm the only one here who has had the gauge itself go bad. I've replaced two of them.

Jamie--thanks. Sounds easy enough. Steve and I ought to be able to muddle our way through that. Thanks.

Uhhhhhhh. Well. I would need a portable griddle.

Don't know if I could work that out. I guess it would have to be something I could cook at home and BRING with me. :yup: Sorry. But you know what? I could drive us to IHOP! :drive:
