Okay here is the deal. I want to run a serp belt. I pulled the timing cover off a Crown Vic with a standard rotation water pump. I also got the pulley from this donor car. I have the brackets from a Tbird that used reverse rotation water pump, I know this because the pulley was smooth on the top, and this setup used the idler tensioner pulley. This is what I want to use if possible to avoid using the dual serp setup. I searched but couldn't find a pic with the belt re-routing for standard pump. Does this way even exist? I am only running alt, and a/c no PS no Smog pump What I NEED to know is 1. if I can use the single belt serp setup from the Tbird with the crown vic pulley on a standard rotation water pump? 2. Do I have to use the smooth pulley, but just re-route the belt? 3. Can the belt be re-routed to be used with a standard rotation water pump? 4. Am I just plain screwed? Please help me.
With standard rotation your going to need a grooved WP pulley. The belt will route just like the old V-Belt. There are some pics of March pulleys on Rick's and my car in this post http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=14558
I have the grooved pulley, as stated from the crown vic. Im also running A/C so how will this work with an a/c compressor?
i dont think you can run one belt with the stock stuff you have. if you dont want to switch to a reverse water pump then you will need to do some custom brackets and idler pullies to make that work the way your describeing. i would just switch to a reverse pump. they are cheap now for brand new ones. get the alt/ air pump bracket from a 5.0 fuel injected mustang and get the ac bracket/ ps bracked, the water pump pully and crank pully. install it all leaving out the smog pump and power stering pump. then just run a wire or rope around the pullies and measure the length. then get a belt a little shorter so the tentioner will work.
I misread your post, I thought you said no ac or PS. I agree with Bryant, without a double lower pulley (never seen a factory one in serpentine) you will need a reverse rotation WP and and idler to achieve your goal. Another possibility would be to locate the AC and alternator on the same side of the engine. Check out the March systems for ideas. www.marchperformance.com
