Hello everyone, My name is chris. I just bought a 1971 maverick grabber that i have seen sitting for at least 9 years or so. I have spent the last 3 weekends working on it seeing if i can get it running. I am happy to say it is close. I have head it run and it sounds nice. I have a few questions after looking a bit thru the forums 1. do any mavericks come with 9in rearends? what do they come with? 2. adding disks brakes appeal to me. can they be add without power booster? 3. i need door panels, anyone got some blacks ones? anyway I will try to get some pictures up next weekend. little bit abot the car it is yellow. it has 39000 original miles i believe. it is 302 with manual 3 speed on the floor. last owner put holley 650, eldebrook intake, headers, electrice fuel pump cam and mild head work.
one more question i forgot. my car has the factory 14 in wheels. what is a good sporty tires size that won't cause any rub... i eventually want to get some nice wheels but i need tires now
cman! I don't believe they came with 9" rears. It would be an 8 or 8.8 I think. Others will chime in in a bit. Can you post the tag info? That will help get info for you.
Greetings from your Texan neighbor! Gene is your best friend as a resource - he has helped me plenty in a short time. Have fun, sounds like your car is a great find, post pics when you have the time. Chris
Welcome to the board. No mavericks come with a 9" rear. Yours is probably an 8". I believe you can put the disc brakes in w/o a power booster. Use the search function to look for past threads on these subjects.
you can add disc brakes for sure without a power booster. I just finished a manual 4 wheel dics conversion using a master cylinder from a 1985 Dodge d100/d150 truck. A board member here by the name of Old Man posted that info a few years back. I recently completed the swap. I'm using an adjustable prop valve for the rears but other than that it's pretty straightforward. Granada fronts and lincoln rears are what I'm using.
I put four wheel disc on my Mav and used the stock master cyl and valve. It has worked great for 2 years.
:Handshake Gene, i think they are...8" or 7.5" i would guess his V8 Grabber would have an 8".. ...Frank...
This is why I said I think. You are correct, 7.5... And if I were to guess I think he would have an 8" rear also. Now i'm trying to think of why I came up with 8.8
