O.K im interested in the opinions of the men and women on this forum who race in a street/strip class on dot raidial tires. ,i have two questions to make this simple and to the point ,of these four tire manufacturers ,Mickey Thompson,Hoosier, goodyear,B.F Goodrich -who makes the best tire for a street/strip raidial for the best price ,,what model of tire.Question two, is what size of tire best fits our stock 8 inch or 57 ford 9 inch .8 inch or 8.5 inch x15 rim were the tire will fit inside the wheel well and not hit the leaf spring, thanks for your opinions and your knowledge:bowdown::cheers: Jimmy2gates

My preference for the track is the M/T ET Street Drag Radials. Not sure how they will wear on the street. THey are pretty soft.Probably need to ask someone else about the size. :)

That's what I plan on going with. Looks like I'll be using the 275/60R 15's.

On my car the M/T drag radial hooks the best (1.46 60 foot) they do however require a different burnout, than the other radials Ive tried. As far as lasting, I have a friend that runs them on the street year round, And after about 10 k miles their done. The 265/60/15 is the largest tire i can fit on my car without interference, your results may vary, i have ran all the radials except the Goodyear. Hope this helps

10k is the best we have saw, Not a excessive amount of burn outs. Usually on my car with normal to long burnouts, I can expect them to last all summer, this would be going to the track at least 3 times a month Thur the summer. No burnouts i would say no more than 15k miles. Yes there is a difference between the radial and non radial (i have ran them both) The non radial is just a wrinkle wall with rain grooves.

Why would you drag radials for street use only?

Scooper, What kind of times are you planning on running?

I`ve run 12.45 @ 109 on Pep boys Futura`s.....$80.00 each.(Pictured on my "interstate" pic below)

My point is, why should you buy High dollar "race stuff" if you are not at a point where your car needs it? I know you often mention being on a tight budget (I am too.)
So in my opinion, it is best to not be blinded by the ultra cool Race stuff and just run the parts that the car really needs at its current performance level .

I love my BF Goodrich Drag Radials. They have 150+ passes on them. I put a set of new Hoosier cheater slicks on and switched them back after 2 times at the track this summer. I can look up the size if you need it.

James, my quickest pass so far was on a pair of BFG Drag radials. They hook great, but don't expect them to last forever.

Sorry man, I think I was partially to blame for getting you off track.

I was shopping like you last year and found that really, they aren't too much different in price from one brand to the next if you are looking at an entry-level tire. The BFG Drag Radials got the best reviews when I asked this question back then. The ONLY drag radials I see people driving on around here are the BFGs, I have never seen anyone driving around on anything else.

Besides, the BFGs look like a regular tire, to the untrained eye. So cops will leave you alone if you have them on in town.

    EDIT--

Tried to fix it by deleting some of my posts, but there are still the responses to mine, so it kinda threw things askew in the thread...:hmmm:

    street/strip tires

Scooper, NO worries ,its all good ,i enjoyed your threads and your passion to build a great car for as little as possible but keeping the proformance level as high as you can on a limited budget ,i know how you feel ,as i am in the same boat .Im a single weekend dad paying large child support for three girls and still trying to build a awsome spring and summer daily driver that i can tent out at the track when i dont have my girls and race. Scooper ,all my racing back in the day was done on the street ,you know the widest 30.00 tires you could buy at the local wrecking yard ,but know ive grown up and do have three girls to look out for ,so for safety its to the track to race and i want to be competitive so having the right or best dual purpose tire is what im looking for ,thanks for your last thread . cheers Jimmy2gates
