I was contacted by a guy looking for advice on the value of his car.
He is possibly interested in selling it, but didn't know the value.
Don't consider this a classified ad, I told him that I would post
pics and details and ask opinions, and he could read the comments.

The car appears to be in very good condition according to his description and pics.

I told him that in my opinion, a $5K car in rust belt areas is not generally worth $5K in dry climates. With me in between down here in N. Carolina, I may have an inaccurate opinion of value in some peoples eyes.

So, let's have some fun and vote on the value of this car-it's Barrett-Jackson season anyway!

I asked him to fill in answers to the following:

Location of car: Grimsby, Ontario (45 minutes from Buffalo, New York)
    Year built: 1973
    Doors: 2 doors
Engine size (6 or 8 cylinder): 8 Cylinder
Transmission type: automatic (no power steering)
    Condition? Very Good
    Any rust? minimal
    Paint? gold
Glass? mmm....yes all the windows have glass...
    Interior? Very good
    Running? yes
Any problems? needs a tune up

The car appears to be in very original condition. I e-mailed him back asking if it had been painted recently. No answer yet.

    Here are the pics:

I didn't ask him about mileage, although I would guess it is not very high. ;)

I say he could start at 5,000 but would have it awhile. I would say more like $3,500.
    I didn't see milage?

Nice car. I would say $4-5k. Hard to tell what the interior is like with the seat cover on it.:)

Just a observation from the interior pic. It looks like the one piece rubber floor mat is in upside down. It looks like a Maverick steer head(although in a Comet):hmmm: in the middle on the hump. You would think it would be the other way so when in the car it would look right to ya.:hmmm:

The remote mirrior adjuster is broke off.
It may have hole in the bumper or bumpers from the fog lights
Its a very nice Comet overall(y) but just a Comet:tiphat: as in not a GT

Don't want to be negative. I love it, it's a Comet. Hard to put a number on something with so little info. Pics look really good although I think I see some rust runs on the rear tail light. Some very minor stuff like mirror knob broken and yes, the seat cover. I am probobly being very conservitive with $2,500 because I don't see info concerning brakes, suspension and maintenance. Might be needing a radiator or other things under the hood. Wish there were more pics to help bring it up.

Going on the information you provided, and the few pictures. I'd say it's a 5K car. Lose the mudflaps and the lights on the front bumper, bracket on rear bumper. Would make it look much better in my opinion.

Car doesn't have lower front valence. Seat cover is probably covering a worn out seat. No AC, 6 cyl, possible repaint.

If selling on ebay, I would start the car at $2,000 with a $3,300-3,500 reserve. If it did not sell, I would take the highest offer. It's a nice car at a glance, but the more you look at it, the more it makes you wonder. I see the front valance has been replaced with the large bumper lower front extensions (possibly the entire fenders, and then why? Accident? Rust?) The paint looks fresh. This leads me to believe that all may not be what it seems with this car. Being a Canadian car, I am especially suspicious of it.

As a buyer, there is no way I would consider it without a close inspection in person first. If it really IS as nice as it appears, I'd say $4,000 tops, because it's still got a ways to go to be really nice. To be in the 5,000+ range I would expect nice seats, front valance, and a relatively clean engine bay. I think 5,000 may be pushing it for that car at this point in time regardless. But you never know if someone wants it bad enough.

It's a Comet so it's only good for a parts car for my Mavericks! $500 tops!

J/K...had to throw that in there for Gene! :D

Craig, you stated it is a 6 cyl car. Do you know something we don't? Seth stated it's a v8.

As for value, I would be inclined to go with what Jamie stated if it is a v8 car. I'd have to see lots more pics to do any better than that.
