Well is suppose you can if oyu rig something like that up... guessing that that doesnt clear the hood?
The original plan was to find both added power and fuel economy. That carb is a progressive 2v off a 4 cylinder. The progressive part makes it a very small carb when driving 'granny style'... Then if you put your foot in it, in theory, you should get more air than the stock 1v carb. I would just about garauntee more mileage with one of these properly tuned, however I am skeptical about more power because the intake inlet can only flow what it flows. Without properly modding the inlet, or having an intake that removes from the head for that matter, You can't improve airflow with just a carb. The carb does look close to the hood, but I believe from past posts, and the fact that he drives the car everyday, that it clears. I did suggest to him that removing the 1" egr spacer would help clearance. It is still in the pic, but he may have already done away with it. I am looking for economy and, more importantly, a simplier carb for a 200. So I started a post asking about the Holley 1904 fitting a 200. If anyone has any info on this subject, please visit my thread. Dave
Good info. I hope someone posts some pictures. I think a 300ci I-6 street/ strip Maverick would be a truly unique car. ***especially if it had a turbo. Hows this 300 sound... Click here to see Video
yes it does clear the hood. i know i have a hood scoop but since the carbs so far to the passengerside of the engie bay it really doesnt do any good. my scoop is 13'' across. to clear a 2bbl on a I6 it would have to be about 18'' across if you still wanted to keep it centered i would get rid of the egr plate but the intake has a wider bolt pattern then the egr plate so i'd have to invest in a new adapter plate. economy has stayed about the same if i drive it "econmicaly" but it does get going a little better when you get on it. its not my daily driver. my 250 comet is and for having the same engine with almost half the miles it definatly wouldnt be a even race.
Is anyone gonna comment on this video clip? This has got to be the best sounding I-6 I have ever heard.
It sounds like that Walt Disney movie from the late 50's/early 60's... the flying Ford (Model-T?) running on flubber - same farting popcorn sound... what was that high school science teacher invents this goo that makes everyone jump and fly.... Just kiddin'.... the audio is terrible... but if I sit back and crank it up it sounds pretty wild. It'd be kewl if they did a drive-by so you could really hear it... I've been thinking about beefing up my 6 instead of swapping an 8... maybe dual exhaust IS feasible...
I'm not sure a 300 would fit but it would be fun and consider they used to race them in the 70's.. how you ask comp eliminator guys took 2 cleveland heads cut off the end cylinders and either welded them or bolted them together to make a crossflow head. anyone know someone with a set of heads off one of these, would be a kick in the butt. Even better new set of aluminum heads with a junk end cylinder >
That is interesting. I have heard of Chevy guys doing the same with SBC heads on Chevy I6's. Always wondered if there were any V8 Ford heads that would fit on a Ford I6.
Could always go with clifford parts (headers cam 250 valves in a 200 small chamber head) nothing wrong with a 6 and 3 2's on it. Need to get rid of the barrel intake part or find 2 other heads and take the 1 barrel holes and epoxy them into a barrel intake.
without a set of gaskets in hand I dunno if redrilling is nessisary or not anyone have a 300 head gasket to compare holes to a 302/cleveland head??
I think I remember seeing an article on it in one of my Dad's old magazines that I have from back in the early 80's. They called it a Boss 300. They cut up two 351C heads and welded them back together. Believe they put it in a Pinto drag car or something. If I find the article, I'll scan and post it. - Matt
