I am using 68 Cougar tail lights. They are in great shape but have some minor rust pitting on some of the vertical chrome. I thought about painting black, but dont want to right now. I thought about using steel wool but know I will rub off the chrome and dont want to take the black off the adjacent black paint, Any thoughts or solutions that may work?

OOOO steel wool will not take off the chrome. Its great stuff for cleaning chrome. Unfortunately, nothing will take off the pits. They are actually caused by the deterioration of the pot metal under the chrome.

    I've had a few
SOS dish cleaning pads work great for cleaning chrome. They are just steel wool with soap in them. My bumpers were a little rusty when I got them. I cleaned them with SOS pads and it reduced the rust to just the small barely noticeable pits. I go over them again every now and then when the rust starts popping back up.
