A scrap metal dealer ought to take that off your hands and pay you a couple of bucks. I have started saving old metal here until I have enough to warrant a trip (or I get tired of tripping over it). The cool thing about the one near me is that you get to find out how much your car weighs. You pull in, get weighed, unload, and then they weigh you again to see how much you dropped off.
Yes `the price of scrap steel is at a all time high . Thats one of the reasons that the junks dont have very many old 70s vehicle's they found it more proffitable to crush them and sell the steel for China's industrial revolution .
Set them outside your house. Somebody will do you a "favor" and take them off your hands. Works for me. Ha, Ha. Yes...scrappers would love to have them. That is who is "taking" my stuff I am sure.
Wheres that info Simon? Also, maybe I missed it but, how much $ for what specs? Are they the same as Mavaholics? I have a 73 GT... part 3#s?
I just called John R Spring. He said the OD of the bushings that he sells is 1" and the ID of the eyelet is 1 1/16 and that those are the stock specs. I also called JCWhitney and they scheduled a pickup for the springs I have. They're exchanging them! John R Spring said they are shipping the 1 1/16 eyelet spring.
I finally measured my JCW springs again, they come in at 1 1/16" (after I do the math, darn digital caliper )
GREAT idea...Got a junk yard just up the street, never thought of weighing my car. I did use it a few weeks back to drop off a load of wood, and was surprised that it had my weight down to the pound. Did this, mine were gone in a couple hours. Great deal Rando on the shipping and exchanging of your springs THAT is good business.
Gave mine to a friend that is a blacksmith. Says he will make me a knife out of them when he makes a few.
That is a good friend! Custom knives can cost more than our cars. I have two custom knives - well one that is finished and one that I am in the process of finishing. I make my own. It is always better to recycle than it is to throw things away. I have a guy that picks my scrap up for free. I don't have time to take metal scrap to the recycler but he does and it helps him have a bit of spending money.
Wow, That was quick. I ordered a set Monday the 14th and they just arrived today. I'm also happy to report that they have the correct size spring eyes!!!!!
I would be very interested to see the final ride height on those if you get a chance to post some pics after you install them.
I have the JR springs on mine. They fit great and that was 14 years ago. I paid 150.00 for both springs and mounting hardware. I will be sending one out to this company http://www.flex-a-form.com/order.asp To make a copy in fiberglass with a two inch drop
Thanks. Does that mean all you have to buy to replace the rear leaves are the leaves and the shackles?
