Greetings all from a "transplanted Texan". I hail from the Great White North of Pennsylvania, but I have been here for 15 years, and my son (8 years old) was born here. A quick story if I may - my first car was a 1966 Comet, my second car was a 1977 Pinto coupe; my third car was a 1979 Pinto wagon, and my fourth a 1980 Pinto coupe! Before throwing me out , my reason for being here lies with yet another car that my family owned while growing up...you guessed it! My Dad's 1970 2 door Maverick was the trusty steed that he drove for over 10 years, until he traded it in for a Chevy Citation (HUH)? We traveled EVERYWHERE in it, and I learned a lot about being a driveway mechanic, with my Dad and I spending plenty of time over the years in it or "on it". Always reliable, the six cylinder engine took us through plenty of bad winter weather, and I don't recall any real big problems with the car, that is until the tumblers fell out of the lock , and you could start the car without a key. By the time it was traded, the car had almost rusted completely out (thank you road salt), though not without a valiant effort by my Dad and I to do a LOT of body work and a repaint. Looking back, it was a great car - we bought it new, drove it to death (though I HATED the column shifter), and enjoyed it while we could. NOW, I am trying to decide what car I want - to both relive my youth and bother my wife . Hoping to make a decision in a few months, and the Mavericks are REALLY starting to take a hold on me, especially the 1972 model. Well, that's it for now. It's time to absorb. Any of you Texans out there near Dallas who have a Maverick you might want to show off, I'd love to see it. Thanks for the site!! Chris
From Rowlett and Marietta, OK. I have a Comet GT but it aint ready to show off. Some progress pics can be found by clicking the camera in the avatar area.
I have actually moved into my shop office for a while as business is great. So I am in Dallas now, Plano and Forest .
Welcome to the board. I don't think the early comet or the pinto will get you the satisfaction you want. JMO. The later comet/maverick has a great following as you can see from the forum here. Great bunch to hang out with here.
Blugene: If/when you get the time, would like to see your digs; if you have a shop, it would be a treat to check it out. LMK, I'm in Richardson. Don: Wow, I gotta tell you, I guess the third time's the charm. I have been to the early Comet forum (kinda sleepy), and the Pinto Forum (spent lots of time there), but this place really seems to be rockin....glad to have discovered it, it seems to combine the best of all worlds. The hunt is on!! Thanks for the kudos, guys. Chris
Welcome to the board! I live about 20 miles east of Allentown Pa, but I lived in the Texas panhandle town of Plainview for a year back in the 1970's. What part of Pa are you originaly from?
Hey all, appreciate your welcomes: Bob Wiken - I go through Arkansas all the time on the way to see my Dad in Tennessee - next time I'm heading that way I'll give you a shout. Keep an eye out for me on a '71 or '72 - that is, if you don't want it , Arkansas is close enough! Jean Doll - 20 miles East of Allentown? I am from Erie originally, and had a 2 year stint in Philadelphia back in the early 80's (worked just outside Valley Forge). My brother lives in Easton. Qicvick - Wouldn't mind at all coming out to see your car - it's exactly what I am looking for (not YOUR car, but something similar)... Any TEXAS leads on cars would be welcome!! Dkstuck - Hope you are surviving the winter, I sure don't miss the cold Pa. winters (from Erie originally - where "lake effect snow" is a harsh reality). Thanks guys. Chris
