well im probably going to get some new valve covers and i was wondering if i want a breather and a pvc valve...Also what exactly does the breather do? i was gonna get some ford racing valve covers like this...http://store.summitracing.com/partd...&part=FMS-M-6582-E302P&N=700+115&autoview=sku if anybody has any pics that would be greatly appreciated
The crank case ventilation system draws fresh air in through the breather, down into the crank case, then up the other side of the engine, through the PCV, and into the intake. Positive pressure in the crank case can disrupt oil delivery and scavenge. PCV is also supposed to improve oil life and helps to remove any moisture that gets in there. Crank case ventilation is not necessary, but it sure doesn't hurt anything either. You'll want to vent the sump some how no matter what, because pressure WILL build up in there. You can vent through several places in the block or intake if you don't want to do it through the valve cover.
so you want to have a breather and a pvc valve the goes to the carb..right.. i HAVE to have the pvc valve go to the carb or it runs horribly
Well, that's because you'll have a major vacuum leak if you don't hook anything up the vacuum port on the carb. Plugging the vacuum port is also an option if you don't want to run PCV. PCV can run to an intake manifold vacuum source, or the the large port in the base of the carb.
