what about torino cobra tail lights for a mav? and if you mod them enuf 1962 starfire tail lights for a comet! just an idea?
Because of the pot metal housing and the fact that the tail light panel itself is concave and raised only around the base of the housing, makes it almost impossible to modify comet tail lights.
I was sent pics of this car a while back...guys name was Don and he said the tailights were from a Torino...
I have a set of the Torino Cobra taillights to go in my next custom Maverick project. I'd like to find a Torino taillight panel or the portions around the lights so I could graft in the correct size finished mounting holes.
The starfire tail lights would look really cool on a comet and give it the same basic styling but with a lot more flair. You could probably just cut the tail panel out of a starfire and graft it in place of the comet tail panel as well.
I love the look of the Cobra GT blackout lights on the Torino. Way too wide for a Mav, and you'd have to recess the gas filler, but I think they would look great back there, kinda like Mavaholic's Cyclops light.....
torino lites My buddy posts on maverick.com all the time. He has a 77 with small bumpers and Torino/Montego. tail lites mounted. He said was a easy conversion into a mav panel. His name is Larry Winter. ck out his pics. I think there is a pic of the rear of his car. He is planning on goin to Joplin in July. TTFN Ron
My 77 Maverick , I rebuilt it with Torino lights, I think it looks good. Also you can change your Comet lights to Montego tail lights and put the reverse lights in the valance.
I saw a very custom Maverick in Florida for sale on eBay not long ago with the taillights that go all the way across the panel like you're talking about. The builder obviously shortened them but I don't know how.
