Or a headache?I searched and all I could find was someone who knew someone that done it.Also couldn't find out exactly WHAT mods need to be done to fit it into a Maverick.Lots of talk about moving the radiator outside of the support, but the 2 pics I did find had the rad in the stock location.I'm thinking a fabbed pair of frame stands to possibly lower the engine a bit and MAYBE shove it all back a couple inches(have to fab a bracket on the tranny crossmember)should do it.I've got the following ingriedients on hand; 2(running) 300 sixes a junk 240(has a little bit better head for compression) a good c4 a new offy "C" 4bbl intake a new crane cam(pn 503901) a set of EFI manifolds(poor mans headers for a 300-dual 3 into 1 manifolds) a 3.55 gear for an 8" on the way is a '70 2dr.I just would like to do something different, with these mods I think the 300 would be as quick as a good running stock 302.Which would sorta make it a sleeper.Sleepers are fun.I like having fun.Any insight as to what mods need be done to fit this? BTW....Merry Christmas to everyone.
I think we talked about 2 of them on here. If i remember right both of them were drag cars that had extensive mods done to them. Not sure if i've seen one that has been used for daily driving. I guess it could be done but i'm thinking it would be a lot of work. If you do try it document it and let us know.
I cant lend any info, but have seen a drag car done nicely and it was quick. If you can chop, cut and build you can do it. Sounds cool to me. Dan
It is just more work than most people want to go to in order to get the limited amout of HP from a six. Becareful, sixes are long engines and that limits the rpm and pressure they can take. You will need a good harmonic balancer up front and a torque converter will help balance the pulses in the crank. C4 is a good start but if you are going to make HP with that engine you are going to need to beef the C4 up too. If you set the engine in low and as far back as is comfortable you may have a good handling car when you are through.
Here is what I found out when I was on my quest for info. I have a car shell for it to go in and 300 6 on an engine stand to be rebuilt, but no more yet. I think it would make a cool drag car, someday. Too many other projects right now. I think you should do one so I will know more about it when I am ready. I think I have a few more pictures if you need them. Sarah http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=28393
Also if it's was going to be a race car Allen Johnson sells a really nice aluminum head for the 300!!!
Thanks Paul.I'm not worried about getting big power out of it,just wanting to use what junk I've got lying around to make a fun driver.According to what I can find out over at fordsix I should be around 200 hp & close to 280-300 ft/lbs torque. All by around 4000 rpm.If I can get it to fit, should be a blast.
Found a '68 Mustang over at fordsix w/a 300 in it.Says he moved it back 1",no firewall mods and the rad's in the stock location.Just wondering what kind of frame stands/motor mounts he used.BTW,it ran high 11s w/100 shot nitrous
Pretty sweet, haven't seen this one yet. I know of one with a big scoop on the right side of the hood.
Nice picture ratio411. Who's car is that? I would like to see more on it. I was asking about this a while back too. Listen to the way this 300 sounds in this video... That is music to my ears
Sorry, no info... I plucked that pic out of one of the threads linked to in an above post. There are a few there of that car.
Which is one reason they can handle a "sufficient" amount of Nitrous (as I was told by a guy at our local track who had a low 6's 1/8th mile 300 six in an old wheel-standing Cheby truck).
