I haven't even bothered to look under the car for bolts for the front seat, as I don't have a decent jack, but I was wondering how to get the front seat out. I was also wondering if there was some sort of seatbelt repair kit available. WA has a "click it or ticket" law with an $86 price tag. The original owner, my friend's grandpa, went through some serious trouble trying to deactivate the interlock seatbelt/ignition safety feature they had in '74. I don't even want to tell you what I went through to get the driver's side to at least look legal... Maybe if I put some new seats in I could use some racing restraints, but I like to drape my arm over the bench when I'm driving, feels cooler. Anyway thanks for the help!
yeah I figured as much Thanks, I'll just have to wait 'till I get a lift then, it's nasty under there, I tried to find my lube points on the axle, Whoo boy! 28 years of road grime can obscure just about anything! Any ideas on the seat belts anyone? I could go to a junckyard, but I'd find the same frayed belts as I have now. Thanks again.
It's been quite some time since I removed that bench, But I remember it being quite easy!! In fact if memory serves me right, skip on the lift, you don't need it. Grab your tools and lay down you should be able to reach it right there without a lift, 4 nuts later, you have yourself a seat!! Don't be afraid of a little grease, it adds character. Wear some gloves and you are set. My suggestion as to the seatbelts...Be creative at the junkyard, bet you can find something that will fit, and that looks good.
I'm up to my elbows in grease! It's actually finding the grease points that's hard. but i just got a grease gun so i'm good to go. Thanks for the help on the bench, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I think I'll just trade it out for a seat in better condition. or maybe I can re-cover it. Thanks again!
Front Seat... Hey there, Not quite sure how far you've gotten with your front seat, but if you don't want to go with buckets (easiest way I guess is to find Maverick hardware and rails and bolt them to whatever seats you want) you could always reupholster the existing bench. I've got my '75 4-door and I'm putting a re-covered 2-door bench in. I don't often have riders in the back, but I keep stuff back there. With the 2-door bench, I can access all the stuff in the back seat (as soon as it gets back from the upholsterer) without having to open the back door. The possibilities are endless... Yours, Atzy.
How much are you paying to get your bench redone? Just curious . . . I will probably have to do something next year with mine. David
Good question. I'm getting the front seat, back seat and door panels done with "distressed" vinyl. I'm also getting the headliner, sun visors, carpet and seat belts redone. It's all a package deal, and I'm dropping about $2000 for the lot. Not much help, I know. Sorry! Yours, Atzy.
