So there's this '73 2-door Maverick that I've had my eye on recently. It would be my first Maverick, and as money is kinda tight recently, I was wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of what I'm in for.
Its a 6cyl 200ci and c-4 automatic. I'm going to swap w/ a 302 v8. And of course front disk. (and cosmetic). Is there anything else major that I shoud be aware of that I should look out for and may need to replace in the near future? Anything I should look out for when I go to see and perhaps pick up the Maverick this Sunday?
Thanks guys, that would be great.

Look for leaks in the cowl vents. You can search on this site for what those are all about and what a pain they are to fix. It might be a deal breaker if those are leaky and better to know about it beforehand. Pull the carpet back and check for a rotted floor, which is very common. If the body has minimal or no rust, then the rest would be mostly mechanical, and on mavericks it's fairly easy to fix the mechanicals.

Also vinyl tops can trash the roof on an otherwise really nice car.

Other than that, the standard stuff about used cars apply ... watch out for accident/flood/fire/hoardes of locust damage.

i believe these two comments pretty much have you covered. these are the most common items to look for in mavericks/comet. as long as the rust is at a minimum and the price is decent, sounds like a good buy. the mechanicals are an easy fix so that shouldnt be a big deal. good luck!

you might take a gallon jug of water with you and ask if you can pour it down the cowl vents. that'll tell you wether it leaks into the interior or not. if any at all leaks i would pass on it.:)

Welcome aboard! Yup, all great advice, I second the water trick that Don mentioned. Rust and body damage are definitely the biggest things to look for. Where in the Bay Area are you located? I'm up in the North Bay/Santa Rosa area.

Nice, I have some relatives around there. I live a bit south of you, like 15 min. from the SF airport. Haha, we should start a meet sometime.

Cool. Yeah, a meet would be good, I'll try to organize one in a few months. Good luck on Sunday, and hopefully everything turns out.
