OK, so heres my situation, Im the proud owner of my 1st Ford product, a 1975 Comet with a I6. I live in CA so I have to keep all the smog equipt, I think I finallly have all the vacuum lines correct, key word, think, the car runs decent when driving but cant get it to idle smooth and if left idleing it will progressively get worse until it stalls. also when I come to a stop the check engine light flashes for a few seconds and the car feels like its going to die but rarely dose. Also the idle speed screw is just about all the way in now. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Aaron.

Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks and that the lines are in the correct places. If so, try rebuilding the carburator, it's a great place to start.

mixture may be too lean.adjust the mixture screws if you can to achieve a decent idle.(that carb may have fixed/tamper proof mixture screws)not sure.Does sound like a vacuum leak, carb base gasket is most likely source.Spray some water around the base of the carb,if it hiccups/stalls you found a leak.If not continue on with the water spraying the intake/vac hoses/plug wires.Dont soak the poor thing!!! just spray in stratiegic spots.Prove out the vacuum leak theory first. Then move on to other things, fuel filter/plugs,cap rotor/timing etc...Start with the simple and obveous stuff first.Good luck.
