Here are some pics of what I got done so far. The passenger quater was hit but not bad. A portapower and a hammer took care of that now the rust cut and weld After the rust is gone on the body then its time for the backhalf 4-link and the 32x14x15 and the 12 point cage. front is getting m-2 and I decided to lose the markers. thanks for looking http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes008.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes007.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes006.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes005.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes004.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes003.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes002.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes001.jpg
I likes progress pics!! Personally, I hate body work. But I'm the only one I can afford so I'm stuck doing it.
Thanks for the photos. I have to begin similar repairs to mine and I can always use some guidance since I have no idea of what I'm doing yet.
I don't like it either. I have to get in a certain mode to get it done. Once I get started and set myself a completetion goal, then it starts going along rather nicely. It's just takin that 1st step...:16suspect
looking good. i love doing bodywork. going to change my engine, have to force myself into getting started with that.
Thanks for all your comment I hate to do bodywork but you do what you have to. Here are some more pics from today. I had a little help today XPSNAKE(Bruce) came over to help (learn) do the driver side. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes011.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes010.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes009.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes012.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes013.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes014.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes015.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/stangclone/mikes016.jpg
Questions from a non-welder here. Are you using a wire feed mig welder? Do you turn it down on a low heat to prevent warping? If you have to turn it down, do you also have to lower the wire speed? It doesn't look like a solid bead. Is it a lot of little tack welds? Thanks for the great photos.
mav1970 yes I have 110 lincoln wire feed It is the best thing for sheetmetel the temp is turned way down and so is the wirespeed. on mine i think the heat is on a and the wirespeed is on 2. and yes it is ALOT of tackwelds no solid beads or it will warp. The best to do is tack it all on then take your time and fill in the rest with tack welds. Start at one end with 2 or3 tacks then move to the other end with 2 or 3 tacks then move to the center with 2 or 3 tacks then sit back let it cool and start over in the same patern until its fully welded. I usualy work on a few things at a time while doing this you don't want to get over excited and overheat the metel and warp it. thats the way I do it some will do it different if any body has a different way please let us know. thanks
Well at least my guess's are all on the right track now all I have to do is practice, practice and then practice some more. In fact I just bought a Lincoln 110 welder from Sears - still in the box. I have a couple of really shot fenders that I can practice on and then we'll see what happens. When you say "2 or 3 tacks then sit back" - exactly how much hard liquor do I need to consume to get my welds to look like yours? LOL!! Thanks for the help
mav1970 just a little at a time by the end of the day it will look REAL good Practice is the best way. another tool you will need is a panel offset tool it offsets the panel your welding to so that your new panel will over lap and be flush. not sure if thats what its called but i will take a pictuer tomarrow of the tool and what it does. Just get it out of the box and start with some old body panels and you will learn its really not that hard.
