Those darn strut rods. I think mine are polyurethane. Almost positive. The reason that they were snapping on me because, like Doug posted it has some frame issuses and it was not properly aligned. There is only one person that I will let align any of my vehicles now. No I don't go 4-wheeling in my Mav. I baby crawl over speed bumps and R&R tracks(Oilpan too low). My tires don't even know what a curb is. Fortunately I've not broken one since I got that set from Doug(1+ yrs). Could also have been that maybe I was getting fractured strut rods off old Mav's. Everyone that broke had a little rust inside the break like it was cracked inside. Very possible. I don't think that the bushings pose a problem. Just make for sure the strut rods aren't fractured. Hopefully the problem has been resolved.
I dont know if there is a spec on tightening these. I Just get them good and snug. I dont know how else to explain it. Maybe that guy is over tightening them. I'd be curious as to where they are breaking. If its in between the bushings, then thats the problem.
Mine were snapping at the base of the threads, every last one of them. It happpened on both sides, not just one side.
made me look, made me look. to me the weak point should be at the lower a frame. that is where it is flat with a bolt hole in the middle of the strut. that makes it very small compared to the round end and the round end has a rubber bushing. hummmmmmmmm. if i am looking at it right , it looks to me the flat end is taking all the stress, it is a solid mount. hummmm sould there be a factory recall on our struts????? i'll get a call in to ralph, today ...frank...:bananaman :bananaman p.s. fuzzy d., you said " every last one ". what was the total you broke?
I had the poly bushings on my car, and one of the Mustang guys told me that the poly bushings do not provide the give for bumps, and fits that the rods have to live with. He said most of the Mustang guys use rubber bushings, and synthetic for the rest of the suspension. He also said that the rods break because of overtightening, and with the poly bushings, they fail much sooner. Can't confirm this, just that the guy I heard this from does Mustangs for a living, and knows quite a lot about them. Hope this helps. Earl
I broke three(one pass side two driver side) my brother had this Maverick before me and he broke the passengers side.
