I was sure if any one has had a hard time finding the throttle cable for the Maverick/Comet 302 V8,,, If so,,, RPS will be stocking it,,:thumbs2:

Did you know there are two varieties? I think they changed in 73.

The earlier ones have a crimp-on end on the pedal end of the cable and a bracket that holds the casing to the firewall with only one screw. The later ones have two screws and a different end to connect it to the pedal. Seems like Ford only used the earlier style from 69-72 and then made it better.

10 years ago, my car sat for three days while I turned my entire county upside-down and shook it, waiting for a usuable cable to drop in my lap. It was a search. Most of the ones I found then were broken the same way mine was, by that crimp by the pedal.

How much will it be going for?

    I have a 72 Stang cable now.
Fit fine, but had to mod the pedal just a bit.
It got melted pretty bad when my carb caught fire, so I could use another.
I can go back stock now...:)

You might have to check with others that know better, but I have heard that Mavs used a few different types of cables over the years.
My 72 had a one bolt firewall bracket.
The 72 Stang cable had a 2 bolt bracket, which can be fin-agled into place and held with the one bolt, but it isn't right.
Anyway, when I mentioned that fact to some on the board here, they came out of the woodwork saying their cars had 2 bolt style, while others had the 1 bolt style.
If this is true, then there would be at least 2 types.
Then there were those that said the pedal end was drop in style, while others had a clip on style.
Therefore, there are at least 2, but as many as 4 different cables used on our cars!
The 1 bolt vs 2 bolt is not a real big deal, but the clip on vs drop in is a pretty big deal. Especially if someone doesn't have the tools or mechanical aptitude to hybrid the parts together.
    Just a heads up...
May or may not be an issue.

    Thanks
    Dave

    Dang!
    Cap'n beat me to it!

The later clip on style is by far the better.
But you better be able to fab and hybrid pedals to get it on a crimp (drop in) style car.

    Those crimps always break.

If this is true, then the later cars will use the same cable that is in 71-73 Mustangs. That makes it easy to find.

I'll quit leaving multiple posts now!:yup:

I put the later two-bolt clip-on style in my 71 Grabber ... I just swapped to a later model accelerator pedal ... I noticed the other day looking through the new AK catalog that they are also selling them ... Mine was an NOS original ..

I used a 1985 Mustang 5.0 cable. It's the 2 bolt variety and the length is perfect.
