I have sent away for a Marti report for my newly acquired 75 Maverick Grabber that has a black and white paint scheme and received a call form Marti informing me my car was a special paint car and would need a paint chip to confirm colors, I really dont know how that would help them I explained to them my car was black and white but they informed me that was no help and Marti report would be sent to me with just special paint in the color box of door tag, my question is since black is not a color offered for Mavericks for 75 would a paint chip even show it, and secondly could a customer order a paint scheme back in 75 other than Mavericks standard paint or was the car a dealer ordered paint scheme, or just a promotion car as it is said to be an Oakland Raiders Edition car. Do any others out there that have a Maverick that has a special paint code from the factory. Car was originally this color from factory so its not a repaint, have pictures of it from day one. Any info would be greatly appreciated
I would think that if someone wanted to, they could spend a few extra bucks and special order a Maverick with something other than the standard paint colors. Do you happen to have the build sheet for the car? The paint codes should be on the build sheet along with a notation indicating that the car was a special order.
I have seen several Special Order DSO codes on a Maverick. So far.....all of them was because of paint color being special ordered. I would imagine a customer could special order a Maverick in any color as long as it was a Ford color. Look for any "black" offered by Ford. Even though a Maverick didn't come in that color....it could be special ordered in that color. If you have pictures since day one....post 'em. I would like to see them.
Typically, Mavericks (and Fords of that era) that have special paint have a blank paint code on the door jamb tag, and then a six digit DSO code. I'm not sure why Marti Auto Works would want you to sent a paint chip. Did they mean a paint chip from a paint chip chart or a real paint chip from the car? I'm just guessing, but I'd say they want to be able to say on the report what color the car is but want you to prove it before their report makes it "legit" for any future buyer. Keep us posted on this.
That's what I'm wondering. How the hell can they expect you to take a chip of paint off your car? What if you have a mint condition unrestored car? Nobody is going to scrape paint off their car to send in. And if the car has been totally changed you may not even have any correct color to send in. If they want a chip out of a paint chart you could send them anything you wanted it to be. It just doesn't make sense.
Well I just got the Marti report on black and white 75 Maverick Grabber (Oreo is its new name) dont have a scanner to show it but it says it is 1 of 23 with this paint code 1 of 16 with these paint/trim codes 1 of 1004 with engine/transmission codes 1 of 237 ordred from this DSO 1 of 1,663 with aluminum wheels ordred 5/19/75 built 6/04/75 sold 7/25/75 Doesnt matter if there were 10,000 made of this particular car I love it just as much or more than my 72 Grabber. I guess you can grow to like big bumper cars after all. Did I say that. lol
I take that to mean there were only 23 blank paint codes, i.e. special order paint color Grabbers in 1975. That means at MOST, you have a one of 23 75 Grabber. Wow.... Fantastic find!
Wow, that is really cool. I'd love to see pictures of the car. Didn't Maverick Man post pictures a while back of a black and white '75 Grabber that was free or something like that?
Jamie, you probably saw it a little while back in one of my previous post as you dont miss much on this site. Check out from find posts from this member about selling my Mavs #35 has some pictures of it, I will get more and post in the gallery soon. SoupBone is my picture master poster, I just fix em and drive them BTW SoupBone thanks for your help
And at the rate these cars have gone to Maverick Heaven, I would bet there are less than 5 of those 23 even left.
Can't seem to find much about it. I did find the pictures of that one Derrick posted about a while back, it's actually '74 Grabber but appears to be a factory black and white car: http://mmb.maverick.to/gallery/showimage.php?i=1490&catid=member&imageuser=82
