If you want a low to the ground car, buy a civic. If you want a good handling car, buy a Vette. Mavericks handle like crap because they were designed well over 30 years ago. If you want to really improve that, you'll have to pretty much build a new suspension like thomas hackmann is doing. I'm going to have a nice little rake on mine when it's done. Course that may be ten years from now ;). Restomod Mavericks are muscle cars through and through, I would almost call it a sin to lower them very much at all :).

I dont know about 80's high school...after my time. But if you cruised 4th st. in San Rafael or Van Nuys Blvd. in the early 70's with you car jacked up it meant you were ready to put your money where your mouth was.
Lowriders were driven by mexicans and were all show and no GO.

So Purple, what happens when you need to turn? Is this a strip car only? :) BTW, what kind of setup do you have, I like the look of it.

no its nowhere near a strip only car, it spends 80% of the time on the street, and as far as turning goes it turns just fine it aint quite as low as it looks in that pic... if you look maverick mans car looks alot lower in the front than mine... but as far as a set up goes it just the stock 6cyl springs on the front and ladder bars and coil overs on the rear.. really the only time ya gotta watch the scraping is if there is a really bad dip in the road or a big curb, even then its just the exhaust pipe not the headers :)

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
    Re: .

hum i'd debate the mavericks handle like crap.. yeah if they are stock they handle like crap... however you can still do much to a maverick to upgrade and not go to crazy like thomas :D. a maverick can handle very well if its done right with aftermarket parts, coils, sway bars, gas shocks, tower bars sub frames , etc(after all most of the stuff is the same stuff as a mustang.. i do recall they did road race them)

as far as the civic statement.. don't get me started on that one... and the vette.. well that last vette that was trying to pull on me on the last corner didn't fair as well as he tough he would... yeah i didn't pass him but kept up more then enough.... but the again he probably didn't know what hit him when i few buy him after the turn too.. :D

low mavericks forever! after i lowered my white car back in 90 it got way more attention then it ever did! attention from Super Ford and a few other magazines before i even knew anyone there. key... looks! hps counts but looks help.

Purple ya got that thing sittin just right in my opinion ...Had that pic on my desktop for a while. Love that car! are those stock 1970 170 or 200 6 cyl. springs your running? 71gold and I were talking about the coil spring thing a few days ago and I`m convinced that ford made several different front (and rear) spring set ups . I say this because I believe that the cars which had 250s with AC had the same springs that the v8 cars had. When he did his 6 to 8 swap the front end did`nt go down at all!

I have my stock `72 grabber v8 AC springs on my car and I cut one coil out of them and the front end STILL sat too high (I guess due to all of the weight thats been taken off the front end since it was stock. So I wound up using spring clamps to get the front end down so it looks right.

Now the car doesnt weight transfer like it should `cause the springs are soooo stiff. It doesnt ride bad at all ,but when you hammer the throttle it just spins like crazy, even from a 40mph roll!

I plan to swap in the springs from my 69.5 170 6 cyl. Parts car
soon and hopefully it will make the front sit like yours AND help the weight transfer like it should . What do you think?

    front end went up

when we pulled the 250 out of my Mav and placed the 302 in there the front end I swear sits higher than what it used to. To be honest I think the 302 is lighter

Tammy's car looks level but it's got a slight rake to it. It doesn't really matter what everyone likes it's what you like, I suggest making small changes untill you get what you like. I have had to raise the back of Tammy's four time because the springs keep settling.

I hope the new car won't take that much work  Thanks for all the praise too. I am very happy with the way the car looks, and drives now.

yes they are the stock 170 springs, we tried a set of limiters on the front springs to see if that would help the weight transfer but never really got a good test cause the track sucked, but it streaches WAY out on a good hard launch but i actually think it transfered pretty good before :)

I prefer the "Slammed" look rather than the "Stink bug" look. Maybe it's just a California thing?

1974 Maverick I bought for $500 8 years ago when I was 16. Since then I have invested $30,000 into it.
    (y) I like the stance that Riporter's car has. Thats the way my car sat when I had air shocks and 275-60-15's on the rear. 74Maverick, Thom
