Thanks for the advice yesterday. The trick of jacking up the front arm allowed me to easily install the front shocks.

I worked on the rear. Ordered Monroe air shocks specific for the 72 Mav. The top of it has two holes to mount like in the front. Except the rear shocks have an axle for the top mount. Anyway I am returning them tomorrow. Has anyone got a good pair of rear air shocks. Where did you get them? What brand?

...first...the general rule here is...no air shocks...more than a few have torn the upper shock mount loose with them.
...second...why do you think you need...air shocks...?

if you are trying to lift a sagging rear...you need new...leaf springs...:yup:

Do you have a picture of the problem? The rear shocks don't mount anything like the front.

it sounds like your trying to put a set of front shocks on the rear?

I learned my lesson back in 1980 with my first maverick.....didnt take long before it ripped the right side off the car.

    wrong shock

The box label was correct, monroe put the wrong part in it. The rear has a stud on top, what they sent me was like the front shock. They are getting me the correct one.

I strongly suggest that you do not use air shocks. That area was not designed to support the weight of the car, and that is exactly what air shocks force it to do. They will punch right through the floor the trunk.
