Need Help With Finding Headers That Will Work With My 70 2 Door 302. I'm Running A 4 Speed Toploader With Very Low Suspension, So Ground Clearance And Clutch Linkage Is A Very Big Problem. Has Anyone Ever Tried The Cable Setup From The Mustang And Is There Any Concerns/ Problems Anyone Knows Of?? I Would Love To Find So Type Of Shorties/mid Leght Headers And Keep The Z Bar Setup Now. Any Help???

The DT shorties will not work with the Z bar, much to my disappointment.

6901s have been my choice with my 4 speed cars.
They all have been lowered some without issue, but you sound like your's is super low. In that case, you may be stuck. Drive more cautiously...

They fit fine with toploader, thats what I have. But when my car was lowered, I used to scrape the collectors occasionally.

    Add to that:

I have seen the Stang cable used fine. The one car with the cable that I got to inspect closely used the 5.0 pedals too.

I might be wrong, but won't you have to use a cable ready bellhousing?
The conversion I saw was a T5. Don't know how that translates to a Toploader.

Yes, unfortunately, our shorties will not work with a z-bar set-up. If you converted to a cable I think you would be okay. I have personally tried our headers on a t-5 equipped car with a cable opperated clutch and they do work. I have pics of various applications so let me know if I can help further.

the previous owner of my 74 comet installed duals on 302,however the cherry bombs were added to the exhaust pipes and end at the ebrake cable under the seat area, mabe he was challenged with the obstruction and decided not to run the rest of the pipes under the ebrake cable in fear of dragging ground,,im new to the comet and cautious of normal ground clearence..seems like the only answer is to run pipes under the cable..any help in this decision would be great.!!! i see duals in photos and wonder how the pipes were run...thx in advance for the response!

I have an idea that you work for, are,or build headers for Doug Thorely? I may be mistaken, but in '72 I had a new '71 Grabber that I raced and I put a toploader in it from a Boss Must. and had factory clutch pedals from the 3 sp.and I had Doug Thorely headers on it and they fit without any modification IF I remember correctly, did your company ever make a set back then that fit? I've got a set of 289 Must.DTs hanging on my wall, never been on,still have the sticker on them, gotta be 25 yrs.old, thats what always reminded me my Mav. had DTs on it.

There is a posiblity that Doug Thorley built a set back then, But I don't have any tooling for a set like that. Wish I did though:(.

Gotta pic of the Mustang headers and the sticker?
