    Car weight

I have been asked a few times about how light my vehicle is, I did some research on this and this is what I came up with 1n 1972 the v8 maverick was 2550 with the v8 and power steering, Mine originally had the the 6 in it but I doubt that makes a weight difference now!
I do not have power steering wich I figure is 50#s lost
they came with steel wheels to the tune of 31 pounds each my welds on the front only weigh6 pounds (15x3.5) and rear ones weigh about 12 pounds each for a nother total loss of about 80 pounds. the bumpers in steel were about 35 each and the glass ones that I run had a packaged weight of 7 pounds each for a nother net loss of 50 pounds. The v8 maverick also had An iron intake manifold atabout 45 pounds and the vic jr is only 25 for a nother net loss of 20 pounds and then the stock cast iron heads weigh 56 pounds each and the alluminum heads weigh only 35 pounds each for yet another net loss of 40 pounds my hood weighs about 15 pounds and the factory one is like 45 for a total loss of roughly 270 pounds I took mine to the dump and pulled on the scales and the car weighed just shy of 2300 pounds with a full tank of gas and full interior. I had a guy at the track tell me his was 2800 dry without him in it and I told him he was nuts. How much do your guys cars weigh, I once read an artical that compared the weight of these cars to the falcon of the mid 60s at 2600 pounds . SO all of this being said How much do you guys weigh????? I doubt that dot registered scales are that far off do you??????

OK, going by your list, I should be equal with the following exceptions. I still have:

    Steel wheels 80lb
    Stock bumpers 50lb
    Stock hood 30 lbs

I also am running a 9" which I believe is around 80 lbs more. But, I'm running a 4 speed which should be lighter than your automatic. My car weighs 3010 lbs on a Certified Cat scale with a full tank of gas.

How are you picking up 500 pounds I can see adding 100 pounds of roll bar or so but 500 pounds what year vehicle did they add steel after 72? there has to an answer to this, once I did the research the math worked out think about how much lighter headers are than manifolds and how heavy a stock 12" torque converter is compaired to the 8" that I run, I also run the 9" rear but have a light weight spool I know 3rd members weigh roughly 20 pounds different between a 8" and a 9" but 80 pounds how is this possible when axles are the same and so are axle tubes??? I have a mini starter as well (minimal diff) All these things add up. I have talked to some maverick guys that admit to being @2500 like me and yet others that say they are in the 2800# range but now a 3100 pound maverick, Something isnt right, I checked my book again and curb weight in 1972 with a v8 and ps was 2550, where are you picking up the weight at????

I'm sure the only real way to compare is if everybody used the same scale. Supposedly, these Cat scales are guaranteed in writting to be with 1 pound, but who knows for sure. If DOT scales are run anything like typical a government department, I wouldn't put much faith in the accuracy of their data. Maverick doors got lighter, I believe it was after 73, when Ford removed the reinforcement beems out of them. If you doors are original, they will be much heavier. Just for comparison, you might want to find a truck stop with a Cat scale and give them a try.

I know my old heap is pretty gutted: no front bumper(right now) no interior, aluminum heads, mini-starter, lightweight internals in the rear end, and so on, and it weighs 2635 w/o me in it. And that was put on a 4 tire scale, each wheel independant. The guy who scaled mine out does almost all the outlaw, true and limited street cars around here.
Thats amazing that you got that light, I know Ivy Collins ole mav. is pretty light to but I think he has a aluminum dash and all sorts of stuff done to his to save weight.

Thats great that you got it that light!

    weight

I just found some articles on fordmaverick.com that show that by 1974 the v8 bucket seat (ps and ac) maverick grabber was 2900 pounds, and that article states a 2626 pound weight (75 pounds higher than I had read in the ford article) for a 72 Either way your roughly taking 300 pounds out with a glass hood , bumpers, aluminum wheels, heads and intake, not to mention headers vs manifolds this puts you if you have a pre 73 at 2325 dry by my calculations, I have a old 5.0 buddy that uses the digital 4 wheel scales to tune his Dragradial 90 5.0 I am going to call him today and see if he cant bring them over, My curiosity is peaking. It would explain why I havent gone as fast as I think I should have if its a couple hundred pounds heavier than I think
