Just picked up a (new to me) 76 Comet! 2 dr, buckets, rebuilt 302 with rebuilt C4. Looks super(light blue colour, dark blue interior). Came with tons of reciepts...most within the last 2 years! Engine reciept was for over $2000(at a shop) and trans was over $1200. Paid $500 or it..but it has one problem. The lady that owned it lost control of it on some oil(oil spill on road) and put it sideways into a curb. Both rims on the drivers side are bent and the steering is mega touchy(just loves to dart around). I replaced both wheels but noticed that the front wheel top is out to far(and bottom is in to far). Not sure if something is bent or if it might be the frame. I will take it apart this weekend(depending on the rain) and see what the problem is. Hate to use it for parts(very nice looking car)..but its probably worth more as parts. Any ideas on what to look for?

Look to see if the lower control arm eccentric has moved and scraped off paint (indicating it has moved).

If I get home while it still light tomorrow..I'll grab a few shots...if not I will get some pics on the weekend. Oddly enough...now that I own a Comet and a Maverick and I must say Mavericks are much nicer and infinatly quicker than Comets....at least from what I see;)

Could it be that the Maverick has a 351 & the Comet has a 302? That's why it's faster? Go figure.....LOL:drive:

That definitely looks like a keeper to me.

If she just hit a curb, the camber sounds like it is knocked out of whack as suggested above. Might have bent the lower control arm, too. Easy enough to do ... ask me how I know ... folded the passenger side front tire of a Torino right up underneath the car.
The wheel was facing straight down. :biglaugh:
I backed the car up slowly and it "popped" back into position. :biglaugh::biglaugh:
It was being held by two small bits of the ribbing of the LCA, which was otherwise cracked most of the way through from being folded.

New wheel, tire, lower control arm, center link, alignment, and that car was back on the road as my daily driver for a couple of years after that. I saw it in the next county driving around 15 years later. :thumbs2:

I don't doubt that Comet can't be fixed back up. (y)

Oh! You want my Grabber, cause you have a 70 Maverick the same color. Which means extra parts for you....:rofl2: I suppose I'll have to rebuild the C-4 before the swap. Seeing how it only has park & neutral.:rofl2:
I'll have to think about that one....(y)
