I know what you're going through. I had that exact same thing on my vinyl top car. I fixed it in a couple of weekends. I did however have a good front half of a roof from a parts car. That way I did not have to re-create the pinch weld. I say go for it. Just be patient! (y)

Tons of rust free mavericks, but are they accesable, to the average guy in a rust prone state? Rust free would be great but, then another rusty Mav dies because no one owanted to bother with it.. Dang i am just too sentitmental. i hate seeing any old car get crushed, seems.

How valuable is your time? Are you worth more than a couple dollars an hour? There are many in wrecking yards that have good or decent roofs, and you would be hours ahead to cut it and probably stop the rust that is on the inside of that one which will manifest itself later. You can patch panel it but then you have to work all those sections, which is more hours. And if you didn't want this horse beat :deadhorse you shouldn't have asked what everyone thought. If you already had your mind made up why did you ask?

I also hate to see any car go to a crusher unless there is absolutely nothing left of it. I've never sent a Maverick to scrap, but will be sending my first soon (a 76 4 door). But it is getting robbed of any usable sheetmetal and is a cowl donor car.

I know you've heard all kinds of opinions so far, but I say if the rest of the car is fairly solid then fix it. I've never done a roof swap, but it may be easier than tons of patch panels - and most of the time a roof is good even on a very rusty car (if there wasn't a vinyl top).

I don't know where all these rust free cars are that everyone is talking about. We don't have that many in Oklahoma - almost all of them have atleast rusty quarters. That's why I latched onto my rust free cars when I found them.....because I had a hard time finding them - and they came from out of state.

There not in Florida, I've looked.
There are some, but none for a good price.

I picked my car because the floors and torque boxes were good.
The quarters are toast, but I can replace them.

If I could only find a hood.
