for those that dont know my daily driver is a 1976 4 door comet. its pretty nasty looking, rust holes, faded gray paint but she runs like a dream. i bought it for $60 gave it a tune up, got it tagged, got a title and made a nice cheap beater out of it. i'd rather put it through the stress of taking me to class everyday then one of my good cars ya know?

anyway im trying to think of something to do to it to make it "cool"

    heres my idea...

HMMM, I gotta say not doing much for me but to each his own, If I was going for something like that I'd do a more highly recognizable thing like paint it to look like the General Lee or maybe like the Starsky and Hutch Torino, ( that is a Ford at least)
Or maybe spider man colors with a Spider on the hood, if you are going for comic book heros, or a Superman "S" on the hood with the red and blue colors. with that one most people won't the the reference to the Jokers henchmen's Car from the Batman movie, know what I mean?, it's just be a black car with neon yellow bumpers
But if that is the appeal of it for you then go for it, and have fun!

Just leave it the way it is, and save your money for one of your good cars.

Here is an interesting paint scheme I have come across...

If you have been reading the hot rodding magazines lately, you would know that "patina" is IN and cars under construction is a "hot item". So I have strategically mixed the two genres and have my car "appearing" to be ugly and old and under construction, when in fact, this is a $4000 paint job...It was thought out for years before those swatches of primer oxide red and primer gray were placed, as well as the 3 shades of grey and the most difficult of the bunch, the near-stock looking greenish-yellow color for the remaining portions.

In the end, a completely original paint scheme with that "sleeper" look:bs::rofl2:

Actually, if that is the paint scheme you want, go for it, but if it is a short term fix for your case of the uglies, I would hold off until you can afford to do what you really want to do.

Personally, if i had it all one color like yours, I would keep it. That is a stock color that makes the car look old, but also makes it look kinda respectable in a way. That it is still running and still has semi-decent paint after 35 years.

LOLLOL , Seriously i have really thought about the rat rod look for my Comet, Stabilize and elimate the rust and patch the aras where it needs it, keep the oxidized paint oringinal then build the heck out of the motor and lower it sway bars etc, basically make it a mechanical dream but then leave the body work basically original and just have new inserts put in the bench seats. Painted rims with dog dishes good tires and vi-ola !!

Flat black it,lose the hubcaps and get some white letter tires(or flip the whitewalls).Gloss the rims your color of choice and get some chrome lugs.My first wheel choice is black, but I've seen 'em look pretty cool in lime green, ford blue, yellow, orange and (predictably)red.Black out the grill/light bezels too.If you wanna get extreme you could tint the windows, but that's a tedious job for just a beater. But it would look cool w/the flat black body.

Halebopp...thanks for saving me...I re-read my post and thought it was right on the verge of sounding obnoxious, or even rude, when I was trying to make it funny. Your post following mine brought out the humor that I was trying to convey:thumbs2:

But you have my idea nailed right on. In fact, I think I will shoot a coat of Rust-Oleum silver over the entire car in the next few weeks. I just need to coat the primer with a sealer coat of "something" to keep rust from forming under my primer and bondo. I am not ready for my final paint job and won't be for quite a while, and I don't want a nice paint on there while I am screwing around with the engine and interior, or I will make a mess out of it with scratches and mars. The rest of the car is coated with POR-15 and/or epoxy primer to keep it from deteriorating until I have the funds to paint if for real.
