I just bought a 77 Comet (250ci 6cyl.) as a project car for my son (15) and I. I'm a relative rookie, and my son is just learning so forgive me if I'm not technical enough.

We're having trouble with rough idling. Here's what we've done so far...

    Replaced spark plugs (black)
    New Air Filter
    Oil and Oil Filter change
    Fuel pump and filter change
Dissassembled cleaned and reassembled the carb (not stock)

Thinking the next move is a new Distributor Cap and wires, possibly new distributor.

    Help

If all that does not work. Look in the Tech articles for 2 barrel carb Swap. I did it and it made a world of difference in the idle & power.

The valve is attach to a spacer plate that is between the Carb and Manifold. The valve could be stuck open and in some cases I have seen this destroy the plate under the carb.

i'd check for a vaccume leak , probably air getting in betwen the carb and whre it mounts to the engine.

you should also get a chilton's manual for the mavericks/comets. lots of pics and easy to follow instrustions for most anything youd need to do.

craig selvey had a bunch a while back, i bought one. you should email him see if he has any left Craig@MaverickCorral.com

    welcome abord ;)
