I left the place this morning at 5AM to head to Atlanta to pick up the last of my "Trifecta" as I call them, a Sprint Maverick, a Comet GT, and a Maverick Grabber. After 14 hours behind the wheel, the '71 Grabber is safely across the border into Florida. This makes 4 trips in 4 months to pick up Ga. cars. The guard at the Ga. border just waved me on through since he had seen me so many times. lol. I have brought new meaning to the phrase "Life comes at you fast"! I have no pictures, so no need to ask for them, but the car is a true Grabber with all the parts, good Grabber hood, tail pieces, factory bucket seats, ps, originally red with a black vinyl top with a black interior. It was an original 3 speed floor shift car with an I6 but had been changed to a V8 along the way so the Z bar is a V8 one. It has the correct steering column. Rust free straight body from Okl./Texas which should make restoration easier. Missing the motor but everything else including the original 3 speed is there. It is currently green but I will be repainting it another color with probably no vinyl top. This was the 3rd car I bought fromTim Holland, aka Mtrhd here. Fantastic guy to deal with!! He gave me a driveshaft but wasn't sure if it was for a manual or auto. Are they the same and is the yoke the same for an auto, a 3 spd, and a 4 speed ? Now I have to decide which one to work on first. I have enough to keep me busy until I retire, now. With 3 Ga. cars(the other one was a parts car). don't you think I qualify for at least Semi-Ga. Boy status? Think about it, Ga. boys. Jim
Ata boy Jim...let's keep buying all of their cars. We can probably surround the entire state with all the Mavericks/Comets they have...or use to have.
Drivelines and yokes the same for c4 or manual. Sounds like you have a really good combination of desireable cars.
I have looked that car over well in the past, you got a keeper for sure. And yea, I can't say enough good things about Tim. I got a 30,000 original mile 200/C4 from him out of his '71 Grabber last year. Let me use his shop and tools to pull it and everything. It's an excellent running engine that I used in my '69.5 when I was driving it daily for several months. Engine still had the original Ford stamped radiator hoses and Autolite fan belt on it. I've bought a grille and stuff from him in the past, also. Great guy to deal with, with some awesome cars!!
Glad to hear you made it back safely. Thanks for the invite, would have enjoyed going along, but alas I had a Grabber to pickup that same as well, not nearly as nice as yours though! Bonus though, I got to pick up two cars yesterday, the other is the oldest car I have ever owned, a 1957 English Ford. Hope to see you at Moultrie! rk
Jamie, As you probably know, the Grabber was going to be finished by Tim until he purchased the blue one he now drives. He drove to Texas to get this car. Also, he wants to concentrate on his latest purchase, the famous "Georgia Shaker", built and driven by Hubert Platt. He and a friend stumbled upon the car in a barn where it had been stored for many years. The '65 Falcon was mostly complete and he is in the process of restoring it to it's glory. Richard, It was a long, long day. Congrats on your new finds. See you at Moultrie!
All 3 are projects and it will be awhile before I will have any good pictures to shout about. I appreciate the comments of encouragement, though. I have always liked the challenge of a project over simply buying a finished one. However, with all of these coming so soon together, I have perhaps gone into overload mode. Oh well, it will eventually all work out. One at a time. Thanks for the comments. Jim
