There was a 215 cube aluminum V8 Olds motor (tiny!) from 61 to 63.

It was later used by the British company Rover. I think it is the same motor that was in the Triumph TR8s.

I don't think the 331 was aluminum. I believe it was in the older V8 lineup along with the 394. The 394 had some cool looking valve covers that had a shield on that said "Oldsmobile Rocket" and doulbed as spark plug wire hold-downs. They replicate these now to fit small block Chevys to give it that early hot rod look.

olds is most famous for the 442 rocket, very large kickass motor when used in a small car, but you have to have that kind of power to move the bigger olds cars... mine has an aluminum block 3800 TPI, not a bad motor, but has it's problems as it's first gen, gone through too many exhaust valves to count.... maby someday i'll keep my foot out of it

No doubt, I will and have jumped on the unusual bandwagon a time or two and still look for the oddball cars. No offense to the Mustang crowd, but that is just one of the many reasons I like Mavs and Comets, Silver Springs as an example, 1000 plus cars show up for the All Ford and nearly half are 'stangs and only 14 Mavs and Comets! So here's to the Mav's, Gremlins, and other NON-mainstream cars!

No way you can fault that trade, that 88 will have collectors value before a 4 door mav. in some cases you just gotta call and Spade a Spade.

REO Speedwagon's were old fire trucks I think. REO is the initials of the guy who later started Oldsmobile.

    More Olds trivia ...

Ransom E. Olds sold Oldsmobile and REO was a later company that he started.

He also owned the entire town next to where I live ... Oldsmar, FL

the 442 is a car not a motor. they were the special performance edition of the cutlass supreme, like a "SS" version. the original meaning was 4bbl carb, 4 speed trans and dual exhaust. over the years "442" changed its meaning but it never had anything to do with cubic inches. your probably thinking of a 455 or 425 bb

R.E.O. built cars as well as trucks. They were bought out by Diamond Corp in the late 40's or early 50's and became Diamond REO trucks. Then Diamond was bought out by White Corp, who also at one time owned Freightliner before they sold it to the employees, and later Freightliner was bought by Diamler {parent company of Mercedes} White was eventally sold to Volvo Trucks.

impalas and delta 88s were gm's full size cars, the cutlass, chevelles, gto's etc were all built off mid-sized cars

The x framed cars of 1964 GM cars included all most full size cars from that manufacturer. Like the Chevy Impala, Pontiac Catalina, Buck LeSabre. Longer in wheelbase in which some parts that would share would include the Pontiac Bonneville, Buick Electra, Cadillac Fleetwood. Differences in glass and things like that would be the difference in some of the upper scale cars, but all the same basically. Obviously the roof , held the key to the glass differences. The olds 98 was in the class with the upscale cars, with the 88 being on the scale of the Impala. Nice cars and I love them all. I also love the Maverick 4 door, so in my opinion. whatever makes ya happy.

As far as I know that was only in the JetFire turbo coupe only (215ci w/215hp!) A true turbo V8 from the factory, F85 based, a little known model to me, until my brother bought one about ten years ago. It had a regular 4bbl installed, with the complete turbo intake in the trunk, never hooked it up, sold it for what he bought it for two years later. Told him he was a complete ass for doing it, but hey, that's how he rolls. My brother is a douchebag. Anybody else have that problem? :D

Check out the boost guage in the console!
