I just bought a 77' maverick for $300.00 bucks. Its in pretty good shape.but I want to put a 400 smallblock in it..sorry,but the motor is handy....can this be done...be nice ,its my first time...
its going to be more trouble than you think. youll be on your own for mounts, tranny mount, and hooking all the the little stuff back up, which can get pricey. yes, it can be done depends on your skills and budget...
best thing in my opinion is to go with a stroker 302. 331 or 347. will cost you less in the long run too.
The SBC is a wide engine too. Probably have to shave the shock towers. Lots of work. No one makes the swap parts... so it's all on you. Sell the 400 and stroke a 302. My .02 Dave
"It's handy." I've got alot of engines that are handy, but I'm not going to try and stuff them in my Maverick. More work then it's worth. Sell the boat anchor and get a 351W and stroke it to a 408 if the C.I. is what you want.
Did you mean the Modified 400 ford motor from like... a lincoln? Or the chevy 400? Keep your ford a ford... chevy will plague it, haha I don'tt hink i woudl attempt to put the chev. motor in a mav... just deems like a lot of work and if your going to that expense, you would be better off stroking a 351w or a 302... honestly i think anyway But it's up to you, your car post pics of you do it!
