I have had this idea in my head for over thirty years, build a streetable drag car like the Gapp & Roush Tijauna Taxi from 1974. Their car was unique in NHRA Pro Stock history and barely lost the season championship to Bob Glidden (in their old Pinto no less) that year.

So it may be time to scatch that itch. Has anyone here built one these, ever seen a replica? The rumor is that Jack Roush has found the original car, reportedly destroyed in a pit accidient and will recreate it from the ground up. I don't have that kind of money but the idea remains.

I'm looking for any information anyone here has on what color it was, where to start with finding a good 1970-71 Four door and who has experience with how you'd fit 305/60-15 Mickey Thompson Drag Radials in the back with minitubs and leaf springs. Right after that will be how to get a stroker 460 in the engine compartment. My target is a street driven 9 second all motor ride. Believe it or not, I'm not completly out of my mind here as I have the 10 second version of this program now with a 71 Mustang convertable. It weighs 4220 with me in it, I think the Mav should weigh 2800 if I pay attention to the details. Am I off base?

Yes I realize this means a cage and cutting up a bit of the engine compartment etc. I hope its not too big of a sin.

You obviously have a great Forum here and I'm hoping ya'll can help.

    Bill

    Welcome to the forum.
There have been several people mentioning a recreation. I think it is great idea. I wish you luck on the project. BTW the 4 door Maverick was not introduced until the 1971 Model year.

I believe you might want to search for a 1973 4-door. I believe that's what the Gapp & Roush Taxi most closely resembled.
