i have a freind who is parting out a motor with a supercharger and innercooler. how difficult is it to rebuild one if it needs it? and how does this stuff hook up? what trans would i need, and what all is involved with a 200 hp bolt on supercharger?
Everything better than stock is needed. Is the supercharger on a stock engine or is the charger aftermarket? Is the engine EFI or carb? Why is it being parted out? What size engine & what company engine?
its on a roush 383 stroker, its efi but mine will be carb, it was totaled out and probably be locked up, i'm gonna rebuild the supercharger first. i'll be puttin in a 302
oh and the 302 im puttin it on will be gettin a f303 ford racing cam, gt40p heads from an explorer that i plan to compleatly replace all lifters, rollers, rods, springs, etc. i will be compleatly rebuilding the motor so what other things will need to be replaced in order for it to withstand the power? i think the supercharger is the kind that sit on the intake.
That sounds like a MagnaCharger. I'm not for sure if that kind can run with a carb setup. You will have to check their website. With force induction, you want the exhaust side to flow well for your heads & exhaust system. The intake side would benefit also but exhaust more important. Dual pattern cam that has more exhaust lift wouldn't hurt either. Who ever you get the rods from, make sure you call them & ask tell them what you are doing just to make sure the rods will hold up. You did not mention pistons but you will need lower compression pistons, maybe around 8 or 8.5:1 with iron heads, this also have to do with how much boost you plan on running. Always use ARP bolts. Dont use the factory bolts. More stuff but check on the charger 1st.
ok, i was hopin that i wouldnt have to bore or get new pistons, i know the 85 to 92 mustang 302s had forged pistons, and thats what i planed on gettin. i dont know alot about compression or how any of that works
I don't know for sure but they maybe about 9:1. You could get away with it with the intercooler. The Carb Shop could set you up with a carb because a regular carb want work. They are not cheap either. Hint
Yea thats one way. You can get a blowthrew carb. Air intake goes staight to the carb. Looks like a EFI air intake pipe going staight into the top of a carb.
The "easiest way to use a carb with a supercareger is to use a sealed box around the carb. You can't just put pressure into the airhorn and expect it to work because the pressure will blow the gass out of the carb and not into the engine. The other way is to draw the air for your supercharger through the carb - for that you will need a larger carb than you might think. It is best to get a professional involved when installing a turbo or supercharger - especially with a carb.
where would i be able to get a efi to carb conversion for a supercharger? and what kind of compression would i have
Post pics or get the namebrand of the charger. Like I said before, I have never seen a MagnaCharger on a carb. That's the one that Roush cars come stock with. If thats the case than you want be able to use that one. Unless new technology has come out & I have not heard about it yet, witch is possible. PaulS gave got adive too. Force induction is unforgiving. If one thing is off to much than you may have to start over with new parts.
http://www.kennebell.net/index.htm I would give them a call. Don't believe they offer any carb applications though.
Now since you post that brand, I remember that one too. Looks like a MagnaCharger. Yeah you will have to have an EFI setup. There is someone on this forum with an EFI 5.0 engine, I just can't remember who. I have also seen one in the Power Tour with Florida tags on it. So it can be done, just a little research before you start.
