I am trying to remove my steering box for a rebuild but I cannot get it off. I bought a puller and tried the small end to remove the box and pitman arm together but I could not get it to budge. Next, I tried to remove the arm from the steering box, but again, it would not move at all. I am thinking of using a torch to heat the pitman arm and try again. Is there something else I can try?

Heat it as little as possible. Smack it with a hammer, and use an air gun

I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
Just dont hit the threads,,,,, Heat just one point on the pitman arm where it goes into the gear box,, I usually heat one point red and give a tap ,,,,, it usually falls rite off,,,

You can rent/borrow a puller from many of the local parts houses...

I tried a puller and it would not budge. I'll try heating it.

The heat worked. I just used a propane torch to heat one spot for a few seconds then hit it four times with a hammer and it slid right off.
