I have to agree....I think when Ford dumped all their performance equipment and programs, the grabber hood was one of the casualities. When you are marketing for "family and economy" a mean looking little hood doesn't quite fit in...

Man, I am SO opening myself up for flaming here, however......

I, personally, prefer the standard hood with stripes over the nostrils. Don't get me wrong, I think it was a good move for the time. If the nostrils were somehow functional though, I think I'd have a different opinion. For them to be decorative only (attempt at 'flashy'?), is akin to smoke and mirrors.

Beautiful nostrils are in the eye of the beholder.

Cool (but not from the factory ;) ).

Show us what you've got (seems like I remember someone - you I suppose - having a 'functional' nostril hood).

This is not a flame! :) What about hood scoops? Most of then are non-functional too.

Hey, some of the baddest iron to roll out of Detroit had non-functional hood scoops. Fact of the matter is, cowls or snorkels up front worked far better than then most Ford Scoops. They just don't look as good.

As a guy who has turned most of my hood scoops functional, they sure make a mess of your engine if you get caught in the rain.

When I'm driving down the road, I always get asked, who makes that hood? When I tell people it's factory, they can't believe it.

Now, I may get flamed for this, but I'll never understand the people that cut holes in these Grabber (I call them "Snorkle hoods") hoods! Seems lame to me...Get another hood!

I'm with you Rick, I've never cared for the grabber hood. The flat hood with a nice scoop is way more cool in my book.

I would have to agree, as soon as I seen this thread that is the first thing I thought of. By 1973 the muscle car era was on it's way out. Some have said that it was over at this point. So, the Grabber hood was more of a casuality of the end of muscle car era more than anything else in my opinion.

Tom and Tammy's car has a ram air set up using the scoops.....also Radmavs are opened up.....along with David Moore's.......I had plans on running the grabber hood on mine......but with the intake I chose It really needs a scoop so I opted for a comet gt scoop on a flat hood as I could'nt bring myself to cutting up a grabber hood.......as for what was the use from the factory:?:.......well just look at it this way......there are several cars from that period that just had raises in the hood.......they just looked cool:D
