The passenger side of my trunk is all messed up. It has rust in the corner and rust also behind the wheel well. I took the whole passenger rear trunk area from top to bottom including the wheel well from a 73 maverick that has no rust. My question is, can I just weld that piece in or should I do it in sections? The first few pictures are of the trunk, the last picture is the section that I cut out of the donor car. thanks
I think first I would remove the tail light panel from your car and the doner. Then do the floor and trunk drop as a section. The quarter panel don't look bad in the pics but until you strip it down to bare metal, you won't know the full extent of the damage. Looks like a couple of small patches will fix that though. Then put on the new tail light panel.
So are you saying I should go ahead and cut out the spot welds and go panel by panel? Because I could also just cut out the pieces you were talking about with a saw and then weld them on.
The first thing you need to do is remove all the paint and body filler and get it down to bear metal. Once you get to that point...then you will be able to determine what all needs replaced. By the way......that isn't rust. THIS is rust.
Or duct tape. Think I'm kidding? Someone really did put duct tape over a rust hole on my '72, and then painted the car.
I agree, That isn't RUST. I think you need to strip the paint from the area, and it would be much easier just to replace the rusted out areas with small patches, you don't need to replace the whole tailight panel or quarter. Something like this is much easier, and finished correctly, you will never know it was repaired.
