I received a 75 maverick that had sat in a garage for appx. 6-8 yrs. I have done repairs to get it running and have rebuilt the carb twice, however, the car will stall when on the road. It will not when just idling. Almost sounds like it floods or doesnt get enough fuel. She will not start for about 30 minutes. After sitting she will start right up. I have also changed the filter twice and put in a second clear filter to see if the tank was dirty. Fuel looks clean. A friend said the blockage might be at the bottom of the tank and to blow air from the line into the tank to release the sediment. Could this be the problem or am i still having carb problems or some other problem.?
If the filter is staying full and you can see gas squirting down carb when it shuts off,,,you got gas. Blowing controlled pressure will should the "sock" filter off line in tank. If it appears to have gas,,,, check you ignition box. Pretty cheap nowadays ($20-30) May want to get one, see if it fixes problem. If it does, keep old one in trunk just in case on the road it should get you home. If it doesn't, still a good spare to keep, Distributor may be at fault, you'll have to have it checked. I had a 79 T-bird new, going around a corner at times it would stall. I found out till I got the warranty work done, if I took off the distributor cap, an that is all I did, it would restart! No idea why that would work but car ran fine couple more days! Back then the boxes where $300-500 an only at the dealer! Good luck an keep us posted
