yes, unplug the magnetic pickup wire coming from the coil to the distr. make a jumper wire connecting the green and purple contacts on the plug you just undid ( put jumper on the coil side) take off the coil wire from the top of the distributer and place it appx 1/2 inch from a ground on the body. turn on the ignition switch and pull 1 side of the jumper wire out of the connector plug. when you pull the wire you should get a spark from the coil wire to the ground. if you don't get a spark then the problem is on the ignition box side not the distributer. if you do get a spark then the problem is in the distributer. good luck hope this helps.
Well, sort of We determined that it is a problem with the carb under partial throttle. THe BG manual suggested that low float, butterfly adjustment and idle mixture where all possibilities. I also found that the choke plate may have been closing. But, before we could start to eliminate possiblities the tranny started puking fluid at a rapid rate. It is either the seal around the converter or around the pump as the fluid is pouring out of the bell housing from behind the inspection plate! So, we will be pulling to whole mess to prep the engine bay and fix the tranny, etc. I think the carb problem is likely related to the change in heads. We went from stock E7s to ported thumpers. Wow, at full throttle it shredded the rear 245s! Good heads.
