Here is the first of many photos I expect. This is what it looked like when I picked it up. It has the 200 6 in it, 8 inch rear. 4 lugs will be swapped out all around, axles in the 8 first, later a shortened 9 inch. I have a set of `75 Maverick disks I have been hanging onto for a while. I had planned on using them on an early Mustang, who knew they would be going back onto a Maverick? The car runs and drives great, but I suspect a fuel leak at the rubber line in back, as I smell gasoline pretty strong at the rear of the car, and I havent driven it in a couple days. Interior is not bad, front seat sucks though. I plan to find a pair of late Mustang buckets for it, unless I decide to use Jaz racing seats instead. I wont be doing long distance trips in it, so the Jaz seats are comfortable enough for me. The current plan is for a 347 with Cleveland heads, 4 speed, 4.56 gears, and probably mini-tubbed with 10 inch slicks or 295-50s for street. Got a lot of planning to do before I put a wrench, torch or welder to it. I just saw today where someone had put a Cleveland into one without chopping the towers...hmm. Wheels are still turning on that one, still reading posts. Once all the figureing, planning and research is done, then I can start buying parts. In the meantime, I will be driving it with mad 200 6 banger power. If anyone is at Cruisin the Coast in Biloxi, MS, I will be there. If you see me, flag me down and introduce yourself...
Yeah, I bought it off ebay. It was about 130 miles from my place. I talked to him before I bought it and asked him if the car would have any problem making a 150 mile drive. He said no, it ran good. So I took a chance, had a buddy take me up there, and I drove it home. It is the first car (hotrod project) I have bought in 20 years that I was able to drive home. It ran great, never missed a beat. Did pretty fair on gas too. I found out once I got it home, that it had the 200 instead of the 170 I thought it had (T code), plus it has the 8 inch rear instead of the 7.25 or 7.5 I thought it had. I will be swapping the axles and drums as soon as I get a free minute, and the front disks as well. I have a set of 14X7 5 lugs off my old Granada parts car I will use for the time being. The old guy gave me a trunk full of chrome bits, extra tail light housings, etc. The one thing I am for sure going to do first is get rid of all that black crap on the bumpers and other trim. I hope its not powder coat, dont think it is, but it is tough. I hate blacked out trim. I didnt like it when it was supposedly in, and I dont like it now.
By the way. . . . Does anyone here have any Bobcat tail lights? I want a set, but the only set I knew about had been crushed with the car when I went back. Also on my wish list is a Grabber rear spoiler, bucket seats, some kind of cool hood, and so forth. I like the Grabber hood, but not sure if it will clear a very hi rise intake, taller than Vic jr. I dont really want any holes in the hood, and I dont like the snorkle Pro type scoops either. I kinda also want to stay away from the cowl hoods. In other words, not really sure yet what I want. I did see a cool one on here with a Boss 429 scoop on it, maybe a red or primered one, cant remember. Right now, though, I do for sure want the tail lights and grabber spoiler. Anybody?
Welcome aboard Neighbor! Looks like a good one to work with there. There are going to be a few of us hooking up for Cruising The Coast in a few weeks. Maybe you can meet up with us.
Name the time and place, I'd love to meet up with some of the members here. I have only been down here two years, but I love it. Love Cruisn the Coast, too. I had a ball the year before Katrina...awesome time.
Welcome to the baord and it sounds like you have got a great plan. Good luck with the maverick project
Welcome to the forum! For a cool hood and the rear spoiler contact Derrick. He has Carbon Fiber Hoods as well as Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass spoilers. www.maverickman.com
Now THAT is a red car! Wow. Hope you do her right and have her speeding soon. Keep that good running 6 banger...you never know when you may need one.
