    Has Anyone Ever Relocated The Upper Control Arms As Was Done On The Gt500 Shelbys In 65??? I See They Sell Complete Control Arms As Well As Just The Upeer Ball Joint. It Looks To Be Sold As A Kit With Wedges And Templates. Any One Know With Control Would Work With The Maverick?? Thanks

    all you do is relocate the mounting holes for the original control arm...some companies sell a template...i'm not sure which ones, but someone on here definetly knows

    Yeah, you just drill the upper arm mounting holes 1" lower than the stock holes.
    You should use the template to do it right.
    The difference is not in the arms themselves... just where they mount.

    Now the wedges and mods to the joint itself is only required when you drop the holes further than 1". Going further is not generally considered any benefit whatsoever on street cars. 95% of the gains are in that 1", after that gains are tiny and additional mods like wedges and such are needed to correct geometry.

    Fwiw: There was no GT500 in 65... ;)

    I believe Mustangs Unlimited has the template.

    I Just Went And Looked On My 70 2dr And The Front Control Arm Looks Like It Would Hit The Shock Tower If Dropped An Inch. I Also Thought Dropping The Arm 1inch And Cutting The Coils At Least One Coil (i'm Think 1 1/2) Would Put A Lot Os Stress On The Upper Ball Joint Making The Wedge Kit Or New Upper Arms Nesecerry

    67-70 Mustang Template is the correct one.

    If anybody was thinking of doing this in conjunction with replacing their upper control arms, I would highly suggest the upper and lower control arms from Global West. They are extremely high quality.

    65... but it was the GT350. Which was SBF.
    The GT500 didn't come until the Stang got the big block in 67.

    GT350= 289,302,or 351w depending on year.
    GT500= 428 (or extremely rare 427)

    This template is supposed to print at actual size.
    I would check and recheck measurements before I used it though.
    This is a mod that needs precision to be right.
    Otherwise you can really jack things up.
    A guy over on Stangnet ruined his shock towers yesterday by not being careful.

    I made my own template based on that drawing and it came out great. But you can also get one from Daze products. I can dig up the website, but they are about $13 I think with shipping. The correct size drill bit is more than that, but you can get them both from Daze also for slightly more.

    Hey Ratio, what did the guy do to his towers to ruin them??? I would think that he could weld up the holes, grind them down and redrill them. I filled in my old holes with weld and ground them down so they weren't noticable...not that anyone should be looking that close at my front end anyhow.

    Well, he didn't "ruin" them beyond repair...
    He drilled the holes a little too far apart.
    To get a solid mounting point back, he is going to have to do some
    high quality welding.
    If the 'meat' had been removed from a less stressed area,
    it wouldn't be a big deal.
    But his repair is going to have to be the outside edges of the arm
    mounting points.
    He was pretty upset...
    Posted about it on Stangnet's "shelby drop" thread yesterday or so.
