I just bought my `70 today, will be going to pick it up Tuesday. As far as I know, it is original, needs paint. I have been building Fords for 24 years, and this is my first Maverick. This car has a 6 banger and the 4 lug wheels, which will all see the classified board in a couple months. I have everything to change it over to 5 lugs, disc brakes, and 9 inch rear. I will be putting a 302 together with my 11 year old son, to try to introduce him to the sport. Maybe during the next year, I hope to gather parts to convert the front to Mustnag II suspension with larger brakes, maybe a conversion using factory stuff, or if money allows, Wilwoods. I have a toploader 4 speed that will go into the car, bucket seats etc. I plan to drive it on the streets often, but bracket race it often as well. I live about 12 miles from a nice 1/4 mile track, so it should be fun. Anyway, as I said, been building Fords for a while, got tired of late models, tried to go back to the old stuff, but everything is either too pricey, or too rusty. These cars represent to me to be the best bang for the buck. Light weight, able to handle some HP, and nice looking to boot. Thanks for the site, I plan to use it often during my build...
sounds like its gonna be one sweet ride.. pics as soon as possible please.. oh and welcome to the board..
See if your ignition switch is on your package tray. If so, you have an early 1970 known as a 69 1/2 model.
Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I hope to be able to get this car home Tuesday afternoon. It is bought and paid for now, just have to make the 100 mile drive north to get it. Sadly, the ignition is in the column, that was one of the first things I checked for, after lurking around here for a while. Lots of great information here. Thanks for taking me in....those `60's musclecar site guys are a little snotty, if you ask me. Methinks I like it here....
