My idle has a lope, not sure if it sounds right.... http://home.cmaaccess.com/~scodon/pichostpics/idle.mp3 Seems like every 4th or 5th rev it misses...
It doesn't sound right. Maybe your idle is turned down too much. My 250 had that problem, I adjusted the timing and the idle, replaced/regapped plugs and now it purrs.
That is idling at around 650-700. I don't like it to idle too much lower than that. It is just that "missing" thing I worry about... Timing is at around 14 at idle. Plugs are gapped around 35. All pretty new, maybe 500 miles on them.
I wonder if it IS the heat. It is tuned for more around 80-85 temps. Would the 96 temps mess with the idle like that?
My car was realy rich yesterday and it hadnt been tuned since it was much cooler. so i'd say it's the heat.
Hey Scott, I would try putting the parking brake on, turning on all the accessories (if so equipped), then bring your idle up to 800r's or so. I assume your recording was in Park or Neutral? Also, you can open the gap on those plugs more than you think and improve idle and a tad bit of performance. Another also, the choke could be stuck (if so equipped) or, the carb adjustments need tweaking a bit. Food for thought. Good luck. edit: Oh, and check the timing again.
You can really hear the cam at that low of RPM. I would say you should be at about 850 in park and 750 in gear.
I have always run it more like 650 in park, 600 in gear. I like to hear the cam It has alway run well like that (except for when it is really cold and the choke hasn't kicked off yet). In the winter I run it up to 750/650 to keep it running while choked. Well, I loaned my timing light out, so I guess I will have to live with it like this for a couple of weeks.
What's "Park" I was under the assumption that you didn't want to run lower than 700 with a manual. 1000 with a cheatermatic
