i have a holley 600 that is flooding bad. like it could flood good. it just started all at once. any clues would be nice. ther will be nannas for the winning clue thanks ...frank...
washers have you messed w/the fuel line lately? maybe some trash is on the little jet thingy (you will notice the correct terminology will be used throughout this post ) where the fuel line enters carb ... also, if you by any goofy chance did what I did, and put a washer on the line where it enters the carb and reset the entire float system .....dunno ......Robert
Sounds like a float problem to me. Rap the housing of the carb with the wooden handle of a hammer. Ole trick that sometimes works if you are lucky. But if the needle seat that controls the fuel flow is worn or dirt in it, then you need to take it apart and install new parts. Dan PS Pretty easy to do, holleys are one of the easiest carbs to work on.
Tap the carb with a screw-driver handle near the needle and seat. That should do it if this just hit all the sudden. You have some grit holding the float open. Good luck
thanks i will try the tap and go . i was told holleys don't like trash so i installed the big fuel filter earler to make sure i wouldn't get any trash. maybe some was in the bowl to start with. cold start is good then as it warms up it starts to flood...frank...:bananaman :bananaman :bananaman nannas for the clues.
"Tapping" on it won't do anything. You're floats probably need adjusted (lowered) OR the needle & seats are worn out (typical Holley troubles). These parts are available at most auto parts stores...
I agree with T.L......but, try the tapping. I have gotten quite a few of them running by tapping on them. Its free, takes about 20 seconds and often works. Good luck
Are you sure it's flooding? You can remove the air cleaner and look down the throat of the carb, if you see fuel running out of the boosters at a high rate, or if fuel is coming from the bowl vents, it's flooding. Generally one that floods that bad will not run well even when cold. My guess is a blown power valve(s) or possibly even a sticking choke if it has one. Just a wild guess
it was also suggested to take the breather off, bring up the r.p.s. and smother it almost out. has anyone had any success with this method. i am sure that at any given time they all could work. the carb. set for about a year so it could be dried out inside. thanks...frank...
The holly on my 77 started flooding out once. The screwdriver didnt work but a small hammer did. Thats the only time I had problems with it.
