Who among us has not started a relatively small job, only to have it grow in leaps and bounds? The repair of the tourque box on the passenger side of our 76' Maverick has taken on a new life form. Upon further inspection we discovered the drivers side was not much better than the passenger side. Just to make matters more interesting, we ran out of sheet metal on Saturday and will not be able to get more until Tuesday. So we launched a full scale attack on the poor old Maverick. It now has no fenders, no doors, no glass, no interior, and as of an hour ago, no drivers side quarter panel. So much for just fixing the floors for inspection. It's going to get a major overhaul. Looks like I'll be driving the truck for a while.

been there done that jean doll but think how rewarding it will be when its finished....i did a full attack on mine today too but its not rotted out to bad just one small hole behind drivers door a few dings and dents tho but nuthing major the big project for mine is the v8 swap im already thinking that i wont need any parts from my donor car so that might be my next project but that one has alot of rot

Stipped mine (73) to the bone today too. Only thing left on the car is the rear glass, steering column (hanging),and the F&R axles but not for long. I know how your feeling today but for once I was surprised at how decent my car really is. I am not usually that lucky. A few dings and dents and a little rust, nothing major at all, except all those damn trim holes to fill in. Curssed trim. Best of luck.
Safe to say that the $800.00 estimate just went cruising at warp speed right out the window. I forgot to add that the outer wheelhouse on the drivers side is pretty much shot. I have an NOS one for the OTHER side of coarse. We have a plan though. The majority of the sheet metal on the old quarter panel is still good and we do have a metal roller. Since nothing is better than the original grade of steel, we are going to try to make a outer wheelhouse patch panel out of the old quarter panel metal. We have never tried this before so it should be fun to try this new kind of recycling. It's unlikely that we will have time to complete the whole car and paint it too. At least half the work will be done. One way or another, this basket case will rise again.
Was this the weekend for major projects or what!!! Mine started out as a quick patch for the rotted floor pan behind the driver seat. Before my godson and I finished, we had replaced most of the left and right floor pans aft of the seat mount holes and most of the seat platform on the drivers side rear seat area. Not being an incredibly experienced fabricator and not having NOS pans to install, there was a lot of cutting, hammer shaping, and test fitting prior to welding the first spot weld. After way too much time and quite a few bumps and bruises, the '72 is back road worthy again. New sound deadener, and carpet as soon as I can get it shipped from Auto Krafters. Also planning a steel bulkhead between the trunk and the rear seat for next weekend, weather permitting. Oh, and the new front brakes should be here Monday or Tuesday. All this for a car for my girlfriend who is moving out in 6 weeks. Go figure...
