Hi. I've just repaired my '62 Comet, and everything works like a dream.

My only problem at the moment is that I can't see how much gas I have, nor can I see how hot my engine is.

Here's what I see when I switch the battery on:

As I drive, gas never leaves E and temperature is always on C.

Any ideas? This seems like a really easy fix, there could be a disconnect something. I'm just wondering where I should be checking first.

    Thanks!

theres probably an electrical connection in the back of the cluster that isnt hooked up. if it was just one of the 2 not working i'd think it would be the sending unit but since both are dead its probably a connection into the gauge or maybe a ground wire from it. if not like i said theres a sending unit in the gas tank to check and another sending unit somewhere in your intake depending on your engine that reads water temp and/or any of the wireing inbetween.

    good luck

There is usually a voltage regulator on the back side of the dash. It's usually a small silver box, sometimes mounted on the rear side of the dash. Check to see if it's hooked up. I've seen the copper circuit from the dash break right where it mounts to this regulator. It could be somewhere in the wiring harness to the dash also. I'm not familiar with the old Comets, but that's where I'd start. Well there and of course check the fuse box. You could have a bad fuse for the dash also. Just my first two thoughts.

    Thanks for the advice.

Based on how little I actually know about this car, I'm thinking it might be easiest and least dangerous to take it to someone who knows what he's doing, rather than poke around where I'll probably break something.

I'll have to get my hands on a tech manual and do some studying. Thanks though!
