We'll be heading out the junkyard in a few hours. We were there yesterday and found what I think is a 74' Maverick. It had the LDO package at one time and the car is picked pretty clean. The wide side moldings are on the car, but kind of beat up. It still has the halo vinyl top moldings on the roof. They appear to be in pretty good shape. If anyone needs a set of these moldings I'll try to get them off.
I know for a fact that this yard has no Stallions. I also know they have very few Mavericks. I found three in the hour and a half we were there, we had to really hunt to find them. By the time we found the one with the vinyl top trim the yard was closing and we had to leave.
At least you have junkyard that have Maverick! I dont know any junkyard with "old car" near me... Does anybody know junkyard with Maverick near Quebec?
Jean, have you tried Harry's U-Pull-It up in Hazleton? I found some good stuff years ago but haven't been up there much in the last few years. Last time I looked there was nothing anymore.
I have never been up there. Most people I have talked to have told me they have walked for miles and found nothing but blisters on thier feet.
The key to success at Harry's is to take enough money with you and enough tools to get what you want RIGHT THERE AND NOW!! I went there on a Sunday morning and found a small bumper Maverick with perfect bumpers, fenders & doors. I didn't bring enough money or tools to get them then so I figured that I would come back early Monday morning when they opened the gates and clean house. Well- - -as I'm leaving I pass a primered 2 door Maverick coming in the parking lot. What went through my mind was true. Monday morning everything was gone.
That's how it is at the yard we went to today. If you don't grab what you want right there on the spot, it will be gone the next day. We don't go to this junkyard too often because it is crawling with hispanics and if you don't speak Spanish you feel like a minority. Every Maverick we found was stripped clean and the parts that were not taken were destroyed. All the gauge clusters were smashed, and the door panels that were left behind were slashed. If someone could not get into the trunks, they would hack a hole through a perfectly good tail light panel. What a friggen waste. We did find two of the wood grain LDO dash inserts that for some reason were left behind. I guess someone was too lazy to take the time to remove them. Well, we have them now and nothing was wrecked taking them off.
Jean, it's no different at Harry's. All of the signs are in Spanish now. I talked to a guy who has a repair shop in NY City and he told me that these guys deliver parts and take orders on Monday through Wednesday then head to PA Thursday through Sunday and tear everything to pieces. I once saw a guy trying to get a steering column out of a Ford van. He must have worked for 2 hours on it and finally had to go back to his car for more tools and by the time he got back the column was gone. I see eyes all over me when I'm working on getting something off of a car. I wish I could take my dog with me. It's getting bad anymore.
Exactly! I counted at least 6 or 7 cars and trucks in the parking lot with NY tags on them when we left. I used to have a great time wandering around the junkyards. Now I'm afraid to set my tool box down for fear it will walk away. It's gotten so bad the yard owners had to install cameras in the parking lot to try to prevent or catch theives breaking into the parked cars and stealing parts and tools.
What is really making it tough is that if you find 2 fenders and get them to your truck, how can you go back and get doors? After you get the doors, you'll need fenders again.
