I apologize in advance if this has come up before, but I just installed my new leaf springs, got the new wheels on and put the car back on the ground...FINALLY!! I am now doing the final tightening on the leaf springs as suggested and here is the question. How tight to you tighten the shackle nuts? You're really just compressing the rubber bushings right, so you really will never get it "tight". Right now I have about 1 or 2 threads poking past the end of the nuts. Should I tighten them down more or is that about right?

    Hey Gene,

If the shackels are the stock type, the threads are smaller than the shank and they will not overcompress. The plate will stop when it gets to that shoulder so just tighten them as tight as you reasonably can. Now if they are aftermarket I can't tell you.

Hey that offer still stands if you need any help! Let me know!

    Tony

I seem to recall you tighten them the full length of the thread.....as the factory ones are only threaded so far before it stops.

Thanks guys...I'll tighten them down. They are stock replacement shackles.

Hey Tony, I'll give you a shout soon to pick up the parts. I'll want to have the drums checked and turned if needed and bead blast everything that needs cleaning up. Then we can get together and install them. Thanks. It's coming together!!

Sorry to disagree but....LOL.....you never tighten the bolts on shocks until they stop. You tighten them until the bushing flattens out to equal the diameter of the washers that sandwichs the bushing on each side. But he's correct about the shackles, you do tighten the shackle bolts until they stop. Craig
