I need to get the switch for the rear window defogger from the ac/heater control panel. I can't find anywhere that explains how to do this...anyone have any tips?
First you have to remove the switch knobs, They just pull off, however, sometimes they can be a real pain. Then you have to remove the bezel. This is hard to do without breaking off the little studs that hold it on. I found that taking a couple of small screw drivers and slowly prying on the sides, about 1 inch from the top, until it's out 1/16 of an inch. Then move the screwdrivers down to about 1 inch from the bottom and pry the bottom out the same amount. Alternate between the top and bottom until it comes off. Once that is off you can remove the screws that hold the whole switch assembly to the dash and maneuver it to get to the 1 screw that holds the defogger switch to the assembly.
Thanks for the help...I got the switch out without too much work. Do you have any tips for removing the wiring? I have pulled it from the trunk all the way up to the dash, and disconnected the switch. There are two wires leading from the blower into the dash and three that were connected to the switch. I'm not sure where to go from here.
I know the wiring harness is its own little harness. It goes along the drivers side channel under the sill plate. Then through the side panel where the door hinges bolt on. Its just a matter of working it through the openings. The 3 wires on the switch is what gives it 2 speeds. One is the hot wire. One is the straight wire back to the blower motor. The third is a resistive wire that will drop voltage, making the voltage to the motor less, which makes it turn slower, for slow speed.
what to do next? Alright...I have removed the instrument cluster...I am down to what is in the picture attached to this post. It is where you plug in the wires running from the blower to the wires that connect to the switch itself. Two wires on here go into the part that plugs into the back of the switch...one runs off down farther among other wires. What do I need to pull here? Do I need what's in my hand? If so do I need the purple/orange wire heading down below? Where does it connect to? I'm just not sure what may be in my car that originally did not have the blower. I have the instrument clusters off of both cars and just don't see where all of this connects. Thank you for all of your help...you are amazing!
