I need to know what the difference is between a 8in. and a 9in. rear end.
My friend said that the 9in was the way to go but, I have no clue as to the physical difference or the mechanical of the two. so all I really want to know is it worth my time to do a swap?

    thanks

Got to ask a question first. How much horsepower are you running and do you have an automatic? Okay that was 2 questions, and now for a 3rd. Do you intend to seriously drag race the car?

If you already have an 8" in the car and have no reason to swap, then I wouldn't bother swapping.
The 9" is stronger than the 8", but until you actually need a stronger rear, the 8" will do.
Get back with us when the 8" breaks.;)
    J/K...
How much power are you making?

Good point,, It took 25 years for my 8" to break, and I run a 4 gear.

unless you're making more than about 400 hp or have money to throw away, i'd stick with the 8" aslong as i could.:)

the car is all but stock, yes it is a automatic, and no she is just a daily driver.

I dont need it for the power I need the new rear end to swap it from a 4 lug to a 5 lug and I was just wordweing if there was any great diffrence in the gearing, or breaking power (as it is now has power breaks) and so on.. I just want to know all the differences between the two

now, the rear end that came out of the car was stock (72 grabber) the rear end thats going in is stock (76 four door). will this new rear end be geared higher lower ect.....?

There is a bunch of different gear ratios available for the 8 & 9" rears. As far as brakes, since the front do the majority of the work, I doubt you would notice any difference.
